Drinks are awesome, great selection. Food was good
I found myself at the hoppy monk after a rare flash flood warning with severe thunderstorms where I took advantage of massive solar array disguised as covered parking.
I got a duchess burger (not on menu) which comprises of .25/5 patty, Romain lettuce, sautéed onions on a brioche bun. Oml was this just the most amazing burger.
Compliments to the team in the back at the hoppy monk and the bar tender on his recommendation.
Will be back for more……
Love this place! The drinks are always on point — big shoutout to Jess and Nina for mixing up some seriously good cocktails. They know their stuff and are super chill. Also gotta mention Josh — funniest server I’ve had in a while and super quick with everything. The whole vibe at Hoppy Monk is just solid. Definitely one of my go-to spots in San Antonio.
***editing that while this is still one of my go to spots, it’s been literally so hot lately inside that’s it’s almost unbearable. I know it’s the weather, but there’s gotta be some relief 🥵🥵 - especially yesterday like it’s June, please turn on the a/c or get some fans 😭***
Cool vibe! The crowd was younger (30-40 ish) I think but I enjoyed my drinks and my food was excellent!
I can’t believe it’s been 7 years since I last reviewed the Hoppy Monk. It is one of our favorite places to visit. We love introducing it to our-of-towners. We went tonight for Father’s Day and it was everything we expected, plus. My wife loves the hand-crafted cocktails. The staff is patient and informative and will answer whatever questions you have. My wife asked about four different drinks before choosing the Feeling Peachy. I chose a flight with a dunkel, an amber, an amber ale, a honey lager and an Irish red.
We started with macha Brussels sprouts which combined spicy and sweet. For our entrees we went off the beaten path. My wife had the aguachile rojo with massive shrimp. I had the chimichurri ribeye and patatas bravas. We also split some chorizo mac & cheese.
I dropped my fork after the first taste of steak. It was so tender and flavorful and cooked to medium perfection. I usually try to leave a little, but it would have been sacrilegious with this steak. So good. It was worth every bit of $35. We LOVE The Hoppy Monk!
Great locally owned place to enjoy good food and beer.🍻
The beer selection and drink menu were amazing. The food tasted great and the service that Rob provided was exceptional. The only negative for me was the temperature inside was very warm. Could have been our location and no air flow but overall great experience!
Daniel was an attentive and knowledgeable server!
The cauliflower wings are delicious! Drinks are on point and Josh our waiter was excellent!

We loved this place. Nina was such an awesome waitress. The food was amazing and the service was spectacular. The amount of beer selections is off the charts. We are only in town for a few days but will definitely return.

Great spot to hang out
My visit today was disappointing. I thought it would have changed. Food was marginally better, but now the beer is being effected too. The beer prices are high enough, but they should fill the glasses for the price. I own some glasses they use, and they are pouring up too 2oz less than the cup. / UPDATE: WOW food quality is decent, but the reduction in the amount matching the 10oz pours. This was the first time I saw a ruben sandwich lacking meat and sauerkraut as you can see the pictures. Now I realize why I have not been back.
