We were missing all the sides to our order. I tried to call with no answer and now they are closed with no luck of trying to get it replaced. For this place being $20 per plate I’m very upset that I didn’t get what I paid for

Tonight, I visited The Jerk Shack and placed an order for the family pack — half fried chicken, half jerk chicken — with three sides: cabbage, mac & cheese, and greens. I also added an order of coco bread. My order was placed around 8:20–8:30 PM, give or take a few minutes, and came to $93.42.
I waited patiently for my to-go order, but as time passed, I noticed the staff had started cleaning up. At 8:56 PM — just before their 9:00 PM closing time — I went to the counter. The same young lady who took my order looked at me and said, “I was wondering what you were waiting for.” When I asked about my food, she told me they had accidentally given it to someone else.
When I asked what that meant for me, she said she’d check if the kitchen could make it. But by this point, they were already cleaning the grills. What I ended up with was clearly thrown together from whatever was left over for the night. They were out of greens, so I asked for double mac instead. They agreed, giving me double mac and double cabbage.
When I got home, I opened the boxes to find just four pieces of fried chicken and six tiny drumsticks plus one thigh. For a $93 order, this was already disappointing. But it got worse — the $5.50 coco bread I paid for was completely missing.
To “make it up” to me, they offered an abandoned order (probably meant for the person who got my food by mistake). I took it out of frustration and left. Inside? A box of cold, soggy fries and seven small fried shrimp — which I couldn’t even eat because I’m allergic.
This was an absolute disaster from start to finish. How do you hand someone a $100 order without checking it’s theirs? And if you mess up, why rush together scraps and call it good? Honestly, a refund would have been far better than this mess.
No thanks, Jerk Shack — there won’t be a next time.

I go there every time I go to the VA Northwest Clinic I get a two piece jerk, chicken plate and I get extra creamy grits to take home with fried green tomatoes. You can’t go wrong. The chicken falls off the bone and the creamy grits are my dessert

A different chicken option in town. Great jerk chicken flavor, not as flavorful as I was hoping for. We tasted more of the spicy heat. Jerk chicken was super tender and grilled nicely. We got the beans and rice side; but was a bit too dry for us which made it hard to really taste the spices and distinct flavors of the beans and rice dish. They were very busy when went that’s why waited a bit longer. Food was great. Atmosphere was also good. I just think they are really pricey for us.

First time trying the Jerk Shack with my fiance. We decided to dine in.
Upon ordering, we really appreciate the GF, gluten free options labeled. But on that note, the menu was a bit confusing as we wanted to ensure the jerk chicken was Gluten free. The $20 option which was fried chicken OR jerk chicken plus 2 sides but would have preferred for this to be made more clear. I opted for just the jerk chicken (3 piece only) for $12 which again was not clear on menu. The cashier let us know there were out of YAMS, Fries and potatoes salad, which was disappointing.
BTW they add a service fee in addition to your order (10%) of total. We paid around $40 for 1 entree and 1 meal combo and water only.
The restaurant was very loud with music louder than comfortable playing in the background. We sat at an open table but it was noticeably sticky. We moved but the next table was sticky as well.
When the food got here, we were very impressed with the flavor of the sides. Everything was well seasoned and tasted amazing. Definitely made up for the atmosphere. The jerk chicken was amazing and flavors are so unique with a backyard BBQ taste. Very tender and didn't disappoint.
Highly recommend giving this restaurant a try but opt for the drive thru or order to go!

The cleanliness and decor could use some improvement. Was also very pricy, but don't let that steer you away from this place. Besides those issues, I would describe the food as a soulful experience. I have never had better seasoned food ever here in the city and I could not think of one thing I have tried that tasted as good as this food. The flavor was exhilirating and I can feel the love that went into preparing this food. I love that they had gluten free options as well. Absolutely worth coming back.

The food is great but it doesn't make up for how long it takes to get the food.

Chelsea with Offline - Everything was phenomenal. This place has been on my list for a long time, and I’m just sad I waited this long to try it. I’ll be back soon and often.

My first time in san antonio, in almost fifteen years. So I wanted to find we're the black, home vegetarian restaurant that was black owned. I had to curry tofu with rice and plantains and cabbage, the food was excellent. The food was served in a timely manner and it was steaming hot the way I like it. I didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. Thx you Z

I had never had jerked chicken before, all I can say is WOW it was perfectly seasoned and incredibly juicy. The fried chicken was really good, but the jerked chicken takes the cake.

Good service, but the food was not the best. Shoutout to the young lady running the register. To start, the sides (Mac, cabbage and rice and peas) hands no flavor whatsoever. Tasted like it was just made without any effort. I got the oxtails as my entree, the flavor was not terrible, but definitely could be better. If you’ve had good oxtail to know what I mean if you try these. Overall, I hope to give them another shot later.

**Review of My Lunch at The Jerk Shack**
I tried the vegetarian faux curry chicken with rice and peas today and it was yummy! The flavors were delightful, although the veggies tasted a bit off. On the bright side, the service was very attentive and helpful. I'll be back for more! 😊

Today was an absolute nightmare. It’s should never take 45 mins for a take out order meanwhile the clients that are dining in are getting their food like clockwork. I’m all about supporting black businesses but we have got to do better. I could’ve cooked faster at home.

The staff and service are great. A bit of a wait after you order because it was busy. The jerk chicken is good. The mac n cheese was okay. Have not had the chance to try their beef patties, they sell out fast!
