Great little family run spot with friendly service. Very generous portions and reasonable prices. The gyro, chicken shawarma, and falafel with hummus were all fantastic! The red sauce (made in house! ) was a great addition to everything, giving a nice little spicy component. Definitely worth the 25 minute drive from NB.
As soon as we what did we were greeted by the mom who runs the kitchen, she was super nice and was explaining everything to us. We went on a Friday so we got the special of the day chicken biryani and a loaded gyro wrap. Food was so delicious just from the smell we forgot to take a picture and dug it right away. As you can see we nearly cleared the plates ? Will be coming back!

I am not sure where the people who said the food was bland and the serving sizes were skimpy actually ate at.
The food was very tasty. And there was plenty of it. I had the Chicken Shwarma. My pita was overflowing with chicken and veggies. My pita was soft. Both the spicy red and tzatziki sauces went well with it.
My wife had the Loaded Gyro Wrap. Almost didn’t get a picture of it because she was devouring it as soon as she took the first bite. LOL She ordered the Falafel on Rice to go. She said the falafel tasted good, but it wasn’t as moist as the ones she ate in Israel. I ended up eating them. They were very tasty. They weren’t overly dry or moist to me. My wife said she really liked the tzatziki sauce, but the red sauce was a tad too spicy for her. Everyone has their personal preferences on food.
We also ordered the hummus with two pitas. We ate some and brought the rest, and the baklava, back to our hotel room for later. The baklava is tasty. It was a little small. But I totally understand the cost of making a quality product and the challenges of raising prices too much. I used to own a bread bakery. All goods I sold were made fresh and from scratch. Just like the food at Halal Basket.
We were both full when we left. The staff all were very nice to us. BTW, we got to the restaurant about 7 pm on a Sunday evening. We were the only customers in the restaurant. Several people came in while we were eating. As we left, there were several families coming in.
Not sure when, or if, we will make it back to San Marcos. But if we do, we will for sure be eating at Halal Basket again.
Dietary restrictions: We eat kosher because of our faith. Kosher and Halal share very similar dietary restrictions.

Service, food, and overall experience was amazing. I loved the loaded fries and the cheesy beef gyro. I can tell that their veggie gyro would probably be just as good if not better. I think its important to try different flavors and it is something new to the pallet. Better then your everyday burgers and Mexican food.

My family and I had the pleasure of dining at Halal Basket recently, and it was an overall really positive experience. The quality of the food was nothing short of amazing, and the portion sizes were good as well. My favorite item on the menu were the loaded fries, as they were literally cooked to perfection (satisfyingly crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside). The atmosphere was really warm and inviting too, with the staff being very friendly and attentive towards us. My family and I were new to the town and the owner was very welcoming towards us, even giving us helpful information on where we could accomodation. 10/10 would recommend this place.
