She was even patient enough to swap the TV channel for me a few times to keep up with all the hockey games. She is a fantastic waitress and I cant wait to come back for the NHL playoffs!”

We've generally done a wine flight and charcuterie board with maybe a desert. It won't be cheap. But if you'd like a nice relaxing night out to enjoy a beverage and conversation, this place definitely does the trick. NO KIDS!”

“Some friends highly recommended this place to us, and we had a great first experience on our date night at Balcón. Vanessa, our server, was very attentive and knowledgeable. She was able to ask the right questions to provide the perfect suggestions for both drinks and meal. The carne asada taco was delicious, as were the warm chips with guacamole and the churro donut for dessert. The restaurant is located above Otsu Asian Bistro on Stagecoach. Since it was a nice evening, the garage window/doors were open we could look out over the city. There were also heaters around to keep things comfortable as the night cooled off. The music was lively and not too loud so we could still hear each other. We will definitely go back!”

A place you can truly relax and unwind not overly crowded, you feel taken care of with all the hospitality touches. The food is incredible I hear great things about the beer (sadly never developed a taste for beer myself) but have great NA options or wine and cider! All together it's our families favorite place to be! Also the fireworks show on Tx independence day unreal and the Texas playlist that played that evening superb!”

It was fairly empty when we got there, but got busier as the night went on.Service was impeccable. Food was delicious. We shared a bottle of wine, $10 off during happy hour, burrata and milk bread as an appetizer. So good!!! For our meal, we had the pork chop and flat iron steak and brussel sprouts. The steak was cooked perfectly. The brussel sprouts were delicious!!!For dessert we had the carrot cheesecake.Everything was so good! We would definitely go back!”

“Kore was wonderful, as always. She’s by far one of your best servers, and Mitchell is too. Genuinely everyone who has waited on us in the 4-ish months that we’ve been coming regularly have all created such positive experiences. Kore is our favorite, though, with Mitchell as a very close second. They’re polite, consistent, pay your table close attention, friendly, and everything you’d want in good wait staff. We also love that the restaurant is constantly improving the menu and options for the hot pot bar. We’ll be continuing to come here as long as we can.”

“I like to take the time to leave reviews, but I know that restaurants can be tricky because people have different preferences for food tastes, so I will leave that out. The staff was polite, we had a reservation and was seated immediately, but there was seating for anyone who may of had to wait. I ordered my steak medium rare, and it was cooked to medium rare! Loaded baked potato was served correctly and the toppings weren't spilling out, great job. I could have guessed they were possibly short staffed or had some computer issue, but the staff seemed to work together to overcome it! Bathroom could have used some minor attention, but we all know that could have happened 5 minutes earlier from the last customer, I don't blame the staff. If in the area, I will be happy to go back!”

“What a pleasant surprise to discover such a lovely eatery for my birthday meal with my family. San Marcos is so hit or miss, with mostly misses in the service department. Our waitress, Karma revived my opinion of eating out in this college town. I don't remember the last time I received such incredible service. Her attention to detail was impeccable and her polite & friendly attitude was refreshing, both with me & my husband's requests and that of our two young children. On top of all that, the food was outstanding. I can't wait to return.Kid-friendliness: My kids are really picky, but Karma was incredibly accommodating and helpful with assisting us with modifications and recommendations.”

“I had to come back and leave a new review since the last one I left was seven years ago… Taproom has changed a lot!Taproom is a classic choice here in San Marcos and they are known by locals for their burgers. I love the Wingo Wingo bingo bango that they have on Wednesdays, the host really brings the energy! They also have trivia night on Tuesdays and both nights Wings are $1. The wings are delicious! I love to get lemon pepper mixed with buffalo. They also have an amazing house made ranch to go with it. They are always rotating drafts, so I often find beers I like here that I can’t find anywhere else. The bartenders here are some of the best bartenders on the Square they have such kind, upbeat personalities. This place has so much history and you can tell by the building and the decor on the walls and above the bar. I miss the cordon blue bites that they used to have! Also the buns on their burgers are unmatched in this town! My personal favorite is the mushroom Swiss burger. Definitely stop by here and visit if you’re looking to have a chill meal or a randomly fun Wednesday night.”

If you need some rolls we suggest the Big B & Paradise Roll. They were exactly what we needed. Top it off with the chicken fried rice and you are set. The place has a welcoming vibe, good bar area and friendly fast service. Nice place to go with friends or family. A must if you are in the San Marcos area!”

“Ordered through the app right before they closed, which thankfully they were able to take the order, and they had it faster than anticipated. Food was hot and fresh. Though my only thing which wasn't really a thing, was that I am guessing since it was later in the night, the sauce was definitely spicier than usual. While the adults were okay, the kids were having a little trouble eating it. In the end they ate it just fine, with some grumbles, by the end everything was fine.”

Sean P's 101 S L B J Dr, San Marcos Irish • $$
101 S L B J Dr, San Marcos

“Today's trip to Sean Patrick's Irish Pub was another one of those weird situations, where I should've been there before. Within the last four years, my college roommate and I have made two trips to San Marcos to visit our old stomping grounds, eat breakfast at Herbert's, and visit any breweries in the area. Although Sean Patrick's has been there since 2005, it never came up in any of our Google searches. We even drove right by it to look at the old Too Bitter. Now, here I am on a trip to Canyon Lake, and it suddenly pops up. That's why I headed over today.I honestly can't say that it brought back any nostalgia from my college days. I can't really remember what it was like back in the 70s when I used to go there all the time to party with my friends at the Too Bitter. But, I really liked the atmosphere in its current form. It has all the charm of an old small Texas downtown building and just enough "dive bar" attitude to make me feel very comfortable.I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed to get there and discover that they only had two beers on tap that were actually brewed there. I was also disappointed to learn that they no longer do flights. The website gives the impression that they have several different beers and has pictures of different flights. However, they do have a really great craft beer selection on tap. I tried their Good Juicy JuJu IPA, and it was pretty good. The menu has lots of interesting things to choose. I kept it fairly simple and had a patty melt with sweet potato fries, which were the highlight of the meal. The sandwich was not the best patty melt I've ever had, but it was passable. They call it a paddy melt, and have switched out some of the traditional ingredients.. I think the thick Texas toast washed out the other flavors instead of adding to them like Ryebread normally does. Doubling the amount of both the provolone and salt in the burger would have made it better. It's really only my problem. I am a fan of the traditional patty melt.I was there at around 1:30 in the afternoon. It was pretty dead at that time. But, about four other couples came in while I was there, ranging from college age to possibly a bit older than me.When my college roommate comes to Texas to visit again, I will definitely bring him to Sean Patrick's for lunch. But, I'm gonna go for some of the Irish selections.”

“Another google roulette brings us here. The atmosphere is fantastic. Pool, live music, corn hole, and several other games. The area outside was great. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Great place to bring your kids and still be able to enjoy some adult beverages.I had a burger, and my spouse had the samples platter with shrimp, cheese quesadilla, and fried mushrooms. The food wasn't bad, not great, but decent. I had the Hickory burger. The burger itself was bland, and the Jalapeño didn't really add anything to it. What made the burger was the bbq sauce. The fries were amazing, and I could have eaten every one of them. The shrimp from the platter was perfect. Cooked well and seasoned. The quesadilla was good. The letdown were the fried mushrooms. They were so watery I didn't even eat them. The service was awful. The guy never offered to refill my water, and we had to go and get our next beer. This is a great place but needs some issues worked out.”
