We used to enjoy Jorge’s but their new hot sauce is terrible! It’s a thin tasteless purée instead of the delicious old one with tomato and pepper chunks. The guacamole had been watered down too. For us, a good Mexican restaurant starts with the basics: chips and hot sauce and guacamole.
We went there after the Fourth of July. The staff from the very beginning acted as if we were a major inconvenience for just walking in. The male waiter was rude and disrespectful as was the rest of the wait staff. We were never offered more chips, the presentation of the food was disgusting, it was not warm, tea was never refilled. The tables were sticky and felt unclean.

Jorge’s Mexican Restaurant in San Marcos offers good food, with fresh and homemade corn tortillas and fantastic chips, guac, salsa, and queso. The food is good, though it relies heavily on hot peppers for seasoning and is light on herbs, even cilantro. Nothing fancy. The salsa is a huge fan favorite. Service is great, welcoming, and speedy, but can be a bit forgetful and may need to write things down; incomplete or incorrect meal orders have happened. The service is also very attentive, patient with little ones, and not intrusive. The bar is ok. However, the atmosphere can be a problem if a DJ is excessively loud, making it hard to converse and causing an absolutely miserable dining experience. It can also take a long time to receive food on such occasions. Despite this, many recommend the place for any occasion, especially for the good food and service.
