Tamales are tasty and huge. Not too spicy, just a perfect kick. I share my food with co-workers and they said the tamales are the best they ever had. The owner is real nice and real attentive. She love what she do and you notice with the quality she delivers. I ordered 24 tamales, and next day i was forced to go back for more. The Raja Tamales are amazing!!One of my favorite spot for my Mexican Cravings!!No longer at location, they moved….

Outstanding food! A different kind of taco. That’s right.A different kind of taco. Nobody around here is doing it like this.Arianna knows what’s good and she deserves to be recognized. The sausage egg and cheese taco was the best I have ever had.

I was really looking forward to the Pozole. It was super salty!! I like salt but that was unbearably salty, even with added lime. The chile con queso was hard. The refried beans had tons of burnt pieces of onion. Not good. The owner wasn't in to talk to about the food being reheated, salted and served the next day so I paid $26 to leave most of it there and leave with a headache.

We've had our share of Pastor over the years. This was the best we've eaten. The green chicken enchiladas were full of shredded chicken. Service was sweet and attentive. Don't hesitate!

After a long day of travelling, we wanted a lighter meal. We found this small restaurant. The salsa was fresh and delicious. We had tacos and they were very good. The service was great and the prices were affordable.

This is a tiny restaurant were you come in and seat yourself wherever you happen to find an empty table in the tiny L shaped dining area. The service was great. Would have liked to mix enchilada but they don’t allow that. There was a very loud table of students that made it almost unbearable at times. Probably pricier than other Tex Mex locations in SM.

We eat at many of the little TexMex places in San Marcos. The newly reopened El Charro has become a favorite. The place is cozy. The staff are really friendly. The breakfasts are delicious, both the plates and tacos. I particularly enjoy their green sauce, although I always seem to forget and underestimate how powerful it is - sometimes bringing me to tears. They offer the standard TexMex staples like breakfast tacos and Texas style enchiladas. They also have some more Mexican offerings that are quite good, like their tortas, tacos al pastor, and chilaquiles.

We visited El Charro for dinner on a night when we were hungry. I loved this restaurant and our server. The chips were fine and the salsa was very good in flavor, although I like mine a little chunkier; this was more soupy, but still good. Our server kept the chips and salsa filled, along with our waters and iced teas. They had several enticing specials and a robust selection of plates from their main menu. I went for the chicken fajita special. I came with delicious fresh tortillas. Now this is a family restaurant and not a fancy place, so the fajitas were prepared and served on a plate, not a sizzling skillet, but they were still very good. There were generous portions of chicken, onions and peppers, along with a small salad and rice and beans. My wife and son both had beef burritos that were was huge and looked delicious. This restaurant is very close to the Texas State campus but we were there when the students were on break. I hear it is very busy when the students are in session. The food hit the spot and was very tasty. The prices are very good as well. The interior was inviting and homey; not fancy or pretentious. This is a fairly small restaurant and we really enjoyed our visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. Our server was very attentive, courteous, and pleasant! The food was plentiful and flavorful! We had the carnitas mexicana platter, chimichangas, and fajitas.

We ended up at the El Charro Tapatio because it was close to our meeting venue. It didn't seem like a great idea at the time, but that was quickly proven wrong. The salsa was absolutely fresh and so delicious. The food was great and they served breakfast all day. I ended up with some fabulous machaca along with the wonderful flour tortillas. We will be back!

I have been going to this restaurant for over 11 years now and I have yet to find a restaurant that can even match their amazing pork pastor tacos/platter! Believe me, I have tried but to absolutely no avail. The pork is cooked in a rich blend of chiles and fruit juices (definitely pineapple and maybe a bit of orange as well???) until perfectly tender, but still in perfectly sized chunks, then the meat is doused in the sauce again before being generously stuffed into homemade flour tortillas or corn tortillas (not homemade, but yummy nonetheless) and served with fresh chopped onions and cilantro. If you order the platter, you'll get their super yummy beans and rice as well and you'll probably have leftovers to take home. My hubs always gets their enchiladas, a different type every time and he's never disappointed. I rarely order outside of my pork pastor, but I have had their chicken and steak fajitas, both amazing, as well as their barbacoa (which is traditionally prepared cheek meat, not a shredded beef knock off) and it is deliciously moist and fatty... just the way it should be! They let the flavor of the meat shine by slow-cooking it with minimal seasoning. I believe it's family run and everyone working there will treat you well. The prices are another great reason to go here. We rarely spend more than $15 for both of us to have a nice sized, delicious meal. It's a little place and always busy for mid-morning breakfast and lunch so you may want to try to go early or later than the usual lunch rush hour. Treat yourself to this little gem today!
