First time here and will definitely be returning there was a line out the door but no wait. Guess everyone got hungry at the same time lol. Service was calm and quick! I ordered the hillside country breakfast which I will be craving til I come back ! Parking wasnt too bad parked on the street and walked over to this hidden gem.

The cutest cafe and most delicious Cafe I have ever been. Old building and just so cute. I think I want to move to San Marcos now. We will be back next time we are in this area.

For the price it’s definitely not worth it. They charge for every single little thing. Want coffee? Milk or cream is an extra $1. Order a waffle? The blueberries, strawberries, whipped cream is extra $$. They don’t tell you. They ask if you want it and if you say yes they just charge you without saying it’s an extra charge. Plus the service is horrible. The waitress only checked on us once (when she brought the food out) to see if we needed refills or anything. The food was cold when it finally was brought out after a long time after ordering. On top of all that, they don’t tell you they add a gratuity charge on there before they do it, and it’s 20% instead of the standard 15%. Then they have the audacity to ask for an extra tip on top of that. Nothing special here and would not dine here again.

This place is a total vibe! The food was delicious and our service was excellent. Definitely coming back.

The only vegan main course was the beet burger which “can be made vegan.” What they do is remove the cheese and sauce and then it’s just a dry burger with chips.

Eggplant sandwich is not good without the cheese - it needs something to drown out the vinegar taste. The Asparagus fries were just OK. They need some vegan options, esp. for the price. I would have loved it if they had some baked roots - such as beets, carrots etc. I like the notion of farm to market food but they need healier food IMO.

Unfortunately we discovered this restaurant on our last day visiting Texas. Now we've got FOMO thinking of all the meals we missed out on. The breakfast, lunch & dinner menus here look absolutely amazing.

I went for the steak & eggs with 2 Vista Brewing IPAs & my wife had the burger and somehow managed a carafe of mimosas. Breakfast/lunch was excellent. We also tried the biscuits with house jam ?

The topper was dessert, the Snickerdoodle Bread Pudding was beyond incredible. I'll be dreaming of that for a long time. My wife hates bread pudding & even she loved it.

Our server Matthew was awesome!! We'll be sure to recommend The Root Cellar to friends & family visiting the area & we'll definitely be back the next time we're in the Austin area.

First time at this establishment. I enjoyed the atmosphere and my Beat & Goat Cheese Salad was exceptional. It was lunchtime and I felt the service was a bit slow but friendly. I wasn’t in a hurry and was enjoying he vibe and had a few glasses of tasty wine. I definitely will be back to try other morsels on the menu. Everything sounded and look delicious.

Overall it was a bad experience, the food took over 40 minutes to prepare 2 orders and on my order it was missing the pineapple and jalapeños, the server did not look presentable at all and didn't come to check on us once, then proceeded to walk around the restaurant checking other tables while holding my card which would have took 2 seconds to return. I felt no tip was deserved, and later, the next day, my bill was updated to include a $8 tip without my consent, which is theft. The only nice part of the experience was the front desk lady, who was at least nice.

Update: the owner and one of the managers in charge understood my problem and helped me and offered me a refund! This fixes my experience and I would love to give this restaurant a second chance.

A middle ground between fine dining and a casual atmosphere. Clean, fresh food with rich flavour. A great experience and I will be back soon. I recommend the pesto pasta with chicken and the holy aioli. Try the French sodas if you fancy a refreshing experience.
