Root Cellar could not have been a better choice for us!! Beth was INSANELY helpful and replied to my every question so fast and thoroughly for literally a whole year. Even months into planning, I randomly emailed Beth asking what the pricing would look like to switch from Buffet to Family Style, and she drew up the updated proposal that day. And on the week-of side, she was tweaking our rentals order (which they handled for us - HUGE HELP!! Highly Recommend having them do this!) literally on the last day before it was due to the Rentals company.
The food was phenomenal, and they even let us do the Hatch Chili Mac n Cheese that comes with a particular entree as its own standalone side and were really accommodating with handling various allergens of our guests (Nuts/Shellfish/Dairy/Gluten/etc) - all handled easily and safely.
And the food is GOOD - let me tell you, when we were doing our rounds at tables, I am not joking, every plate was scraped CLEAN. I noticed night of and was so happy! I'm a big foodie and it means a lot to me to serve hot, delicious food that I know the guests loved. And we went with a self service buffet so people were setting their own portions! I saw many folks go back for seconds too.
We also hired our Bartenders through Root Cellar, and I had MULTIPLE people tell me that we served we best margarita they'd ever had, which is saying something for a family of Texans. They also easily added a mocktail option for our NA guests and dealt with some overly complicated wine requests from me (My dad brought a specific bottle that he wanted his family to try, so that was hiding behind the bar on request).
And the servers were FUN! They were dancing along with the music, making jokes while pouring drinks, they remembered my drink order when I came back to the bar from the dance floor and were SO sweet when we sent them home with flowers. It felt like they got to enjoy the party too!
If you are getting married in the Hill Country, Root Cellar is THE choice. Book them now - go go go!!

She made menu planning a breeze and even scheduled a tasting for us the Tuesday before Thanksgiving (the only time we could both be in town before our wedding). On the wedding day, the service was fast, professional, and the quality of the food and drinks was excellent. We chose passed appetizers and a plated dinner.
A quick note for future couples regarding special features: we had ordered an espresso martini tower for a photo op that we unfortunately missed. There were valid concerns behind the scenes about supply shortages and stability, but we would have appreciated a heads-up at the time. Luckily, our photographer managed to snap a picture, even if we didn't get to see it live. This was a tiny detail in an overall amazing experience, and we were still really happy with our experience. Definitely a 5-star team!

Taste testing was phenomenal as were the passed appetizers to the plated steak & grilled shrimp dinners as well as late nite snack of macaroni & cheese and breakfast tacos. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed every bite!
Our only disappointment was having 14 no show guests we paid for (over $500) and communicated throughout the process that all “leftover food” was to be boxed up and sent home with us; unfortunately that did NOT happen. The food was fed to the catering team (which we were told we did not have to feed prior) and then discarded the leftovers. The bride & groom were sent 3 meals to go with them, which was wonderful. Following up with Beth to figure out what happened to the left over food, she said the catering captain was new, not familiar with boxing up food for the bride’s parents. We asked for a refund for the 14 meals & it’s been 9 days of radio silence. This also happened at our son’s wedding, no leftovers of 30-40 no show guests. That is our only complaint.

This was one of the easiest choices we made during our wedding planning process. They had everything we were looking for, including our very specific vision of having churros as the late-night snack. Everyone said the food was delicious and the plating was beautiful. They were even able to do a combination of passed drinks and hors-d'oeuvres during cocktail hour and a grazing station. We chose to do plated meals rather than a buffet so we pre-set the reception tables with salads, water, and bread baskets so no one was hungry waiting for food. They also cut our wedding cake for us to pass out to guests. We also did a champagne tower through them, and it's one of my favorite pictures from the night.

They made sure we ate first and served us large plates before the rest of the guests so that we would be sure to eat before mingling. Usually the bride does not get to eat very much, but I can say I was completely full by the end of the night! The option for late night snacks was also a huge hit- our guests thought the tacos in a bag were so fun and easy to eat on the dance floor. Even the bartenders were amazing, perfectly executing my complex cocktail choice. We would definitely recommend Root Cellar to friends and family in the future!

The staff was also super accommodating and easy to work with to organize the event as well as the crew who did the drop off. Highly recommend them!

The food and menus are very outdated and seem as if someone wanted to be a chef just looked for recipes, had money, and made a business out of it so they can play restaurant. There is no cohesiveness to the menu or how they execute any dishes. Food is very flat and compares to what they would serve at a hospital or nursing home. They claim to be a scratch kitchen but over 80% of what they do is frozen or brought in precut and already made and they just jazz it up with salt and pepper. Very overrated as a restaurant, company, and would never recommend them to cater even a pizza party. Overpriced, poor quality of food, and very poor execution in all dishes. Plenty of other catering companies that offer cheaper and better products. Very disappointed in this experience with them.
