Enchanted by the beautifully restored 1930s building exterior, we decided to enter the U Drop to find the dining room just as lovingly decorated in vintage style! Our late lunch food far exceeded our expectations and very much up to excellent 21st century taste. Our owner/waitress told us all the recipes were house-made. We highly approved of the Mama’s meatloaf, smoked brisket beef, bow tie pasta salad and the sauces and dressings served. We took away an order of what they called “Waldorf” salad but was a little different, being a mix of Romaine, blue cheese, sugared nuts, apple pieces, and red grapes with a balsamic salad dressing. A nice treat for supper later that day! We understand the current owners just took over earlier this year. We wish them the best and recommend the stop to anyone passing by on I-40.
I stoped in for a coffee. I ended up having a breakfast burrito and some brisket too. Everything was delicious and very friendly service. I recommend stopping by if you are in Shamrock, TX.

This charming establishment is undoubtedly worth a visit. It offers a nostalgic ambiance reminiscent of a bygone era. The culinary offerings are exceptional, complemented by the exceptionally amiable staff. Additionally, the establishment is remarkably budget-friendly. Definitely worth the stop.

The staff was very friendly. I had the tortilla soup and I loved it. My husband had pulled pork with pasta side and he really enjoyed it. We decided to get pie and cheese cake. Wow!! The apple pie with caramel sauce was so tasty. The pumpkin cheese cake was perfect. I’m from California and discovered this gem on accident. I want to drive back just to eat here again. You won’t be disappointed. Also the ladies next door in the gift shop/ museum were very friendly. When you’re done go down the road and say hello to Sharon at ‘loot on the route. ‘

Horrible attitude by the waitress on 11.4.25 at night. She needs to go!

I have been in this place many many times never had an issue up until today and come to find out the rude woman was the owner. After driving 250 miles to this destination to stop have a soda and make a phone call I was interrupted on my phone call being told I’m talking too loud. OK so hang up the phone Only have five people over my shoulder making twice if not, four times as much noise as I was with nothing sent to them they pay they leave I get up. I asked the woman I said did somebody complain on me? She said no I just thought you were being too loud so I asked you to simmer it down. I said why did you not tell the group of people directly behind me anything? She looks at me and says because I chose not to. I looked at her. I said it’s because I’m not from here. It’s because I don’t talk like you? She looks at me sideways and smirks. If you are not from here, take caution walking in here if you talk loudly if you’re just trying to have a good time, you might get told to simmer down you might get told to be quiet Ignorant woman, she didn’t tell the other ones that were being really loud to be quiet because she chose not to
Definitely a very unique building and combination of Conoci service station and diner. When you walk in it's very neutral but there are a lot of things to see on the walls. The staff was friendly and greeted me however, I did not stay in or order any food. The old booths, counters and tan colored chairs are definitely a different vibe than most other diners I have visited which tend to be red. It definitely is an old-school retro interior. The exterior of the building appears to be tiles which are a lime green and match the building which looks freshly painted in a light cream or beige color. Worth the stop to see the architecture.
There is also a Tesla charging station there so I'm assuming it's a great place to stop if you want to get something to eat while your car charges. Worth stopping probably at night to see the neon lights, I went at dusk so they weren't quite on yet. The town itself is cute and there are other things to see near it... Including several abandoned buildings and closed businesses. 🫤
We have been on a Route 66 trip starting in Chicago to LA. This has been one of our favorite stops for food so far! To me there is great restaurant quality food… And above that is great home-cooked restaurant quality food. This is the latter! Absolutely great friendly service as well. On top of all that it is in a building used as inspiration as one of the buildings in the movie Cars.
