It’s ok. The brisket desperately needs more seasoning. Texas is thick, crusty rub country… so more flavor would be great. The sausage is yummy. The bbq needs to be big thicker and not as watery.I’ll eat there again but it has room for improvement!
I had pork ribs, pork steak, shredded brisket and shredded pork, along with beans, potato salad and slaw. Everything was very good, all the meat was tender, the potato salad was particularly good.
Excellent Que and better service. I recommend the pork steak. Sides (Cole slaw and potato salad) were tasty, too. The side salads looked generous and tasty.
RECOMMENDEDI was hesitant about getting BBQ here as the previous company held the bar up high. I ordered the sliced brisket sandwich $7, and it was good ( above average ). I would get it again.
We have visited this BBQ location for years, through name and ownership changes. In my opinion, the brisket was better today, than the last time we visited in 2020. The crusty bark and oak flavor were just right. The drive- through window is an excellent addition. We went back here today and it was good again. We enjoyed a quick lunch of lean sliced brisket sandwiches today. They were delicious.
We got here at about 530 on a Saturday and there wasn't anyone here. I got the half chicken with potato salad and coleslaw. The chicken is so moist and flavorful, love the seasoning they used. The sausage was tasty. The potato salad is more mayo based. The coleslaw is mayo based as well both are pretty good. Will totally come back when we travel this way.
We were on route to Lagrange and stopped with the family to eat. This place is managed by 2 really nice girls that helped us decide what to eat with some tries of brisket and ribs. The food was amazing. I recommend the Brisket, BBQ Ribs and the potatoes salad. The vibe is so chill and nice
Coming in at an off-peak time provided a rare opportunity to hang out with the GM and staff. They are running a great BBQ joint with good flavors and high quality products. This was a great stop on the itinerary.
Not a Zimmerhanzel's by any measuring stick. SouthSide BBQ bough this establishment if you want the back-end story on what the locals are saying, and yes most of the meat is prepared off site. The staff is great and friendly, but the food is jus a O'kay for the most parts. The location is clean and welcoming and no long lines as what Zimmerhanzel's previously had ( that might be a clue on the food & BBQ quality and rating ;) )Smithville really needs a good BBQ spot & Zimmerhanzel's was the A+ joint and many decades earlier their used to be another BBQ spot right off the street and Cleveland iirc that was good also. This is back in the golden age where BBQ was really good.I only go here, just to support my local establishments, but Bastrop County is not a leader in BBQ as far as I'm concern and Smithville-BBQ is just okay.
We called in an order and went to retrieve it. They were polite and responsive over the phone, professional and courteous when I went to collect the order, and very generous in terms of the "fixins" like bread, sauce, onions, and pickles. The food was delicious. My favorite were the smoked chicken thighs, which more BBQ restaurants should offer. My wife's favorite was the potato salad, which was clearly homemade.

I will say it again . This place is amazing . The manager is so sweet at attendant to See your needs . Always making sure you are getting the best experience . Love bringing my family here . Definitely have to come once a week ?
Food was great,.Girls were Soo friendly. Decor could be nicer. Prices fair.
Last time we were here, it was still Zimmerhanzel and of course, very good. But we were NOT disappointed with the new place. In fact, we liked it better. For one thing, it is MUCH cleaner. My brother had the ribs which were falling off the bone. I had moist brisket which was delicious. They could have a few more side dishes but the potato salad and cole slaw were tasty. And the staff was wonderful. We don't live in Smithville but will be eating here whenever we are in town.
Missed Zimmerhanzel's Cole slaw recipe as well as their Mac-Salad recipe! Husband missed the fountain drinks. But the BBQ Beef was Awesome! Like the new table setup. The outdoor tables will b great but Not n Texas summer heat. Also the drive thru is a great plus! It was clean & the staff were very pleasant & helpful!! Wish them All the Best!
Just visited here for dinner and WOW! Wonderful food & exceptional service! I got the brisket plate with coleslaw & potato salad - YUM!! Husband had the loaded baked potato with brisket - also delicious. Both worth the price. I’m picky about tea & theirs is great. Loved that there were plenty of pickles & onions to grab & the sauce area was very clean. 5-star experience for sure. We will definitely be back!
