Is hard to find REAL Mexican food that reminds me of my mom's food and this place is amazing. I came back home taking to my parents about this place and that they should go.

The food, ambiance, and customer service here are exceptional! I am visiting the woodlands for the first time from Washington and would be back regularly if I lived in town. Thank you guys for the wonderful food and service!!

Mixed feelings. The staff are very welcoming and helpful , accommodating, energetic, friendly, feels like you’re coming into their home. But food was inconsistent , hit and miss.

1/5. Empanada chicken/ cheese was bland.
4.6/5 creamy poblano empanada. Amazing, spicy, crunchy, warm, and great corny flavor profile.

It’s almost like these came from two different restaurants.

4.2/5. Green enchiladas. Nice flavor, lots of cheese. The white cheese enchiladas are equally good. Get these.

1/5. Red enchiladas. almost no flavor. Do not order.
Again, confusingly inconsistent. Why put this out considering the much better/flavorful green enchilada?

3.9/5. Mexican mom chicken. Most disappointing. Hyped up by staff. At $24 not worth it. It wasn’t bad but was expecting much more. Taste was average. The rice and beans that it comes with were actually great.

Overall 3.5/5. Wouldn’t come back.

This restaurant feels like it’s attempting to be authentic, unique, and present a culinary experience.

I feel this place is putting the effort to be great with its service, variety of dishes, presentation, and effort, but it’s so inconsistent with dishes sorely lacking flavor. Hopefully they can continue to improve their dishes.

Response to owner: I’m not going to ask a restaurant to fix their food. Authentic Mexican food has flavor. Some dishes lacked any flavor. It was tasteless sauce. They were shockingly bland. Instead of being defensive, try improving.

I went out for breakfast with my wife on Saturday and the food was fine, but the waitress’s service was terrible. If she doesn’t know the language well, she shouldn’t take it out on the customers

Because always is a perfect time to have chilaquiles. They are in the menu all day. Give them a try!!

This place is a true hidden gem. We were pleasantly surprised. Fair warning - not your chips n salsa, cheesy tex-mex kinda place, far better. Menu and seating are both somewhat limited, but food and service is exceptional. Highly recommend.

My wife and I tried Mexican Mom tonight on Sawdust. We had heard good things and had been meaning to try it for some time but the stars just never aligned.

Tonight they did. We are glad they did.

We were greeted by the Mexican dad. He waited on us, answered our questions, brought us our food, and did everything he could to make the meal successful. And he succeeded.

We also met the Mexican mom. Both are very gracious and proud of the restaurant and willing to help and go the extra mile to make sure customers have a great experience.

We started out with a beef empanada and chicken empanada and some wonderful chimichurri sauce and a second more spicy sauce. Everything was wonderful.

Next we tried the tortilla soup. It was delicious as well.

And finally we tried the chicken enchiladas Verde and the apporeado de cecina, a beef, egg, and rice dish that came with tortillas. The enchiladas came with traditional refried beans and the beef dish came with black beans. Everything was terrific.

One side of the menu stays the same every week and the other side of the menu changes every week with new specials. You can subscribe and get the specials emailed to you every week.

The owners are from Mexico City and are very proud of their knowledge and mastery of traditional Mexican food. This isn't Tex-Mex.

We struck up a nice conversation with the people at the next table who apparently go there every Thursday night. It almost kind of felt like eating with family instead of eating out.

My only complaint is we were so stuffed we didn't even ask for a dessert menu and when I was writing this review I found out they had Tres Leches chocolate cake. We've never had the chocolate kind.

We both thought the food was amazing and will be back again.

Recommended dishes: Beef Empanada, Enchiladas

Very cozy little spot serving seriously authentic Mexican comfort food. The empanadas alone are worth the trip – we tried chicken, beef, and veggie, and every one was a hit, but the chicken stole the show. I also had the enchiladas, which were perfectly done and packed with flavor. My friend had chilaquiles. Mexican Mom is the kind of place that makes you want to come back and work your way through the whole menu.

Absolutely tasteful!
We ordered the Empanadas de rajas con queso. Perfectly crispy and full of flavor!

For my main dish i ordered the enchiladas verdes and man o man they did not disappoint!

My wife ordered the thanksgiving lasagna and that was such an interesting dish. It geniuenly tasted like a thanksgiving dinner!
