Chicken fried chicken was the worse thing I’ve ever had. A small piece of chicken was pounded so thin it was hard to find! Thick breading resulted in just a hard piece of crust laid on the plate. And for any place in west Texas to not serve sweet tea is beyond absurd to just plain stupid

Like most people we heard a lot about Mary’s so we decided to try it out when family was visiting. The chicken fried steaks are extremely large and we liked them. They are not your typical breaded, deep fried, chicken fried steaks. They are lightly floured, soaked in butter and fried on a flat top. ?. The mashed potatoes are real potatoes and the gravy is great! Overall, we were happy, and again, the portions are humongous!!! Our only complaint was the salads that came with our order, they were terrible!!! It was obviously not fresh, as it was brown and slightly wilted. When asked if we could get a fresh salad we were told they were all like that, and were offered beans as a replacement. To me, if your salads are not fresh, it’s quite simple, don’t serve them, as it questions the freshness of your other food. Overall, we were satisfied with our meals(minus the salads) but will not drive over an hour to go back.

Had heard about Mary's for years so we decided to try it on a Sunday afternoon. The service was great. the waitress said the medium steak would be about 4” x 6”. That turned out to be for one steak and there were two. We had the French fries, and they were great, fresh cut not frozen, crisp, and tasty. The salad was a small bowl of old café style salad with iceberg and some chopped tomatoes. It was fresh and Blue Cheese dressing was chunky and good. As to the steaks, they would have been great, they were of good size and the correct tenderness for a chicken fry but the oil needed changing as it tasted burnt. There were burnt bits on the breading. The gravy, which I believe was homemade, would have been good if they had thinned it with a little milk. Too thick and pasty. Overall, I think after reading other reviews and this expense we will pass on Mary’s next time.

Absolutely the best southern home cooking. And the Mexican food is great as well. Fun relaxed atmosphere with great service. Great group of people. Have been many times and never disappoints!

Well for starters.. when we walked in there was no one there to seat us or tell us to seat ourselves so it was confusing/embarrassing when the entire restaurant was looking at us like we didn’t belong.. when we ordered our drinks there weren’t many choices it was either sodas or unsweetened tea and then when ordered our drinks two teas and two sodas he failed to mention that they were canned so when he brought out the canned drinks we had to send them back we didn’t feel like spending $2 for canned coke with no refills Three of the four of us ordered country fried steaks.. 2 with mashed potatoes and salad.. and the other fries and salad and we use the term salad loosely (shredded lettuce and tomatoes) asked for cheese on one of those salads and they charged an extra $2 GRAVY WAS LITERALLY LIKE CHALK!!!! the batter on the steak was BURNT.. and there meat itself was paper thin and kind of crumbled and BLAND The fourth guest ordered the beef quesadilla which was bland as could be and EXTREMELY GREASY which was brought out at least a whole minutes prior to the rest of the food Customer service was trash… the young man that brought drinks was rude and didn’t tell us what we needed to know.. and the waitress wasn’t very efficient due to the fact that she was the ONLY server no other person in the building was even trying to help her we asked for more napkins and never got them.. it took a while for them to even take order it was over all I terrible experience.. not to mention we drove 40 mins to eat there to spend a $100 for 4 people to eat and leave hungry sooo NEVER AGAIN!!

Excellent chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken. Good loaded potatoes. The medium chicken fried steak is large and very good, made 2 meals out of it. Worth the drive.

Best chicken fried steak we've ever had ANYWHERE. Mary - the owner - is a true gem. Very professional service!

Working outside near by. Just wanted lunch. I don’t need the giant burger or a CFS. Ordered the chicken sandwich nothing comes with it asked for some fries not knowing it would be a $10.00 plate worth, witch I could never finish. My friends meal was wrong and not what he ordered. We were hungry and short on time so we ate. This was made unpleasant by the strobe effect light in the dining area. The ceiling fan blades spin under the lights in the ceiling creating an unnerving environment. I mentioned my displeasure about the cost of the meal to the cashier only to get the response of “yeah it’s weird that the sandwich doesn’t come with fires” She had obviously hear this complaint before. Now I have to over pay for a meal that just wasn’t that good and left most of it at the table. The cashier sensing that I was not happy offered me a coozie to try and make up for things. I had to decline because I didn’t want a reminder of the experience

Probably the best chicken fried steak you will eat. I grew up eating here and try to go back when I can staff is friendly and attentive.

Excellent all the way around. First the service was great, especially sine a basketball team showed up at the same time we did, and they were already busy. They took our drink orders immediately and shortly afterwards ou food order. Everything arrived in a reasonable amount of time, definitely not slowed down by the crowd. Second, the food was impressive. Everything remind me of sitting down to a homemade meal in the south. Fresh green beans and mashed potatoes, and a chicken fried steak you would have to see to believe. I ordered the medium and couldn't finish it, I can't imagine how big the large is. Highly recommend.

Maybe better than Mom's. Nothing to say but to add to others, the best CFS in Texas (which means the world). None of that ridiculous breading that is found at chain restaurants. Great black pepper cream gravy is a must and Mary does it in spades. A treasure in the hinterlands. Well worth the four minute drive from I-20. I have never been able to not order the CFS but the nachos on other tables looked really good and if you are into chicken livers, this is probably a must stop. I would love to get a burger but the chicken fried is sooo good.....

First trip to Mary's in 8 years. Food is as good as ever (Best CFS) in Texas. Prices have increased over the years, but that's true everywhere. Atmosphere is still the same (none) but the inside did get a paint job and grease removal. Will we go back ? You bet. PS Mary still takes the orders.

We stopped to have breakfast at Mary's as we left GOTL to head to our next destination. The 4 of us had a great breakfast, but more importantly the staff was outstanding. They took the time to just have conversations with us. It was such a wonderful homey feeling. I don't know if we will ever get back to Mary's but I would definitely seek them out again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
