This used to be a fun place. Not sure if it changed hands or what but it seems like now they are trying to be something they are not. It’s a brewery but their wine list is longer than the beer list. They got rid of all the games and pool tables and now they play classical music with dim lighting. It just seems absurd for a brewery in the middle of a small Texas town. Also no food before 4 pm. They used to welcome dogs but they don’t anymore “because they have a kitchen “ although there was no food when we went. Doubt we’ll be back for a while.

This is the Gem of Sulphur Springs, for us Beer lovers of course. First, typical brewery with great beer. But they one up it with a Wine and hard Seltzer selection, for the ladies in our lives that ma not be as keen on beer. Second, Live entertainment. Obviously depends on the night but live entertainment is always a plus and the gentleman playing the guitar tonight was great. Third, Charles. The proprietor was a great guy and worth a visit on his own. I love great bartenders and owners who love what they do, this is Charles. Finally, I was "That Guy" so I can say to all the others, just because they don't sell the mass market piss water, Breweries and craft beer is NOT a millennial thing. We Gen Xers started it and because we were being punk rock, going against the machine of BL, Miller, etc. If you want a good beer at a good price, try this place. It is a stand out in Sulpher Springs, which is an awesome place on it's own. And yes, I live here and run a Farm. Yes, a well traveled farmer boy can appreciate a good beer that does not make big corporate types richer and instead supports the local community. You need this place. Oh, before I forget, they will have food very soon (in days).

The beer is great, but the place seems to have gone downhill when it comes to events and hours within the year. Last few times I've been there they stopped doing a lot of activities which made it worth visiting. Prices aren't reasonable without them honestly. If I'd like a drink and to shoot pool it's easier on the budget to go elsewhere that has more of a scene/people. I've had their food a few times, which is good, but the last major event worth going to (which according to insta was around May of last year) they weren't even serving which would've been nice with the show and beer rather than going elsewhere before everyone else left to avoid the rush/traffic. They've changed servers a few times. When I asked previous employees about events they continuously told me one thing to find out later that it wasn't happening and there would be a different server so I couldn't really inquire with at least one or two people consistently. Don't get me wrong, they've all been nice and welcoming! However, it was a hassle and a big run around to try to coordinate with something that was clearly uncoordinated which made it clear there's conflict with staff and the owners when it comes to updates/events. One visiting musician made it clear it wasn't worth going so it could very well be trouble coordinating with talent that may not agree to what they offer as reasonable compensation to perform. The lack of a crowd doesn't help, but that's why it's imperative they improve these problems listed. They also did renovations, which I still have yet to see due to, again, problems listed here. The place is beautiful, it's big, and honestly because of that alone it needs to have events as there aren't any other places like this around Sulphur Springs. Dogs are also welcome, so that's a + Enjoyed some fireworks last year, too, and it was a good place to view them with a good drink in hand with the pupper dog ❤️ Their website also never seemed to be updated, and last I looked it wasn't there anymore so that's not a good sign. It may help to coordinate events where they don't clash with other bars like karaoke on the same night. Other places seem to have really established consistency with their niche, so unless it's a really worthwhile event then poaching customers isn't an option. They re-establish a reliable source of events to attend, especially with their online platforms like Insta, I'll definitely be coming back to enjoy their stock of homebrewed awesomeness, as well as the food so long as they're open, but until then I don't have much other reason to come back. Especially if they're simply going to close sooner than any other bar around town. If it wasn't for previous past experiences that were good it would be a 1 star. Although, if they don't pick up soon with those updates it may evidently drop down to that.

11/10 recommend Backstory Brewery. The beer was amazing and we tried just about all of them. My husband is not a big craft beer drinker but this place turned his head. It was very relaxed and we had the absolute best time talking to the bartender! He was extremely friendly and made us feel very welcomed. We are just passing through but will be back for sure!

The bartender knew his business. Over the top service. A really neat place and good times to come. No food but building a kitchen now to serve their customers.

We came by the brewery and had a couple drinks. I had a green apple seltzer and my husband had Dirty Blonde beers. The bartender was awesome and the drinks were great!

Excellent beers! Bartender was great any very knowledgeable of the different beers and brewing processes. Although they don't have food available for sale on site yet...we were able to get recommendations and brought our supper back to enjoy with the beer. The beer rivalled some of the old breweries we visited in Germany. I really enjoyed the Marzen and the Kolsch. My husband really liked the Blonde. Beer was available for carryout also and we were glad to take some with us. Venue is beautiful and rustic and if I was local I could really see myself renting it for family gatherings.

Great beer selection, excellent quality, and good atmosphere. The staff are very knowledgeable on beers, and the history behind the brewery. It's a new business; so going through some development and growth phases but still an outstanding experience. I love going there and even more love bringing family and friends who visit me.

Good beer and a beautiful space. The bartender was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and we ended up staying the night in our van because the brewery participates in Harvest Hosts and has full hookups. Highly recommend!

I went there today (May 2023 on a saturday) and it was dead, but I loved the place. I cant understand why there was nobody there. They had very friendly and helpful staff. The beer choices were excellent and well priced. The atmosphere was excellent.I would kill for a place like this in Paris, and yet we dont have one. SS has one and nobody goes....I tried a few of their beers and loved the, and bought 2 six packs for $9 each?Excellent place. Really enjoyed it. Will be back for sure, and hopefully more other people will too.

This is all the reason you need to stop in Sulphur Springs, TX! Great ambience with inside seating and lots of outside seating for those traveling with a pooch. They have about 20 beers on tap and the prices are good ($5-$8 for 16 oz). I had the Porter Express and my wife had the Twice Bitten, and both get 5⭐️. The restaurant is closed so I can’t speak to the food.
