High Sierra Bar & Grill is a must-stop if you’re anywhere near Ghost Town, Texas. The margaritas are some of the best I’ve had—perfectly balanced, not too sweet, and just the right kick. Their tostadas were fresh, flavorful, and generously topped—definitely recommend trying them. What really makes this place special, though, is the atmosphere. It’s incredibly welcoming, laid-back, and full of character. They’re also super pet-friendly, which was a huge plus for us. Our pup was treated like family and felt right at home on the patio. The staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind—hospitality at its finest. Whether you’re just passing through or staying in the area, High Sierra offers a great taste of local charm with good food, strong drinks, and even stronger vibes.
Hotel was blah, but... Great bar! Great bartender and servers! John and Anita are the best! Food was decent and the drinks reasonably priced for the area.
But the hotel leaves a lot to be desired. Especially for $350+ a night! The view of Big Bend park is the only thing that really had any value above a Motel 6. I've attached some pics so you can judge the value for yourself.
Good atmosphere although they close early. Food was great!
The staff was great and the food was on point!
New owners have made spectacular renovations! Lovely personal touches in each room, coffee pots, real hot water in the showers! Food is great! Drinks even better!
Had drinks, didn't eat but the food looked and smelled good.
Only thing bad was the prices. Chicken sandwich was awful but the drinks were good..
Clean room. Friendly greeting and service. Great place. Will stay there everytime!
This North Dakota/Minnesota/Texas crew loved this place. It was the perfect respite after a full day in Big Bend (four of us hiked Emory Peak) — nice, big, clean rooms with awesome showers. The food & drinks at the High Sierra were plentiful, strong and delicious. The staff were gracious and easy-going. The owner Tamara was a great hostess, offering additional ideas of things to do in Terlingua. Cheers!
Service was so great! The bartender was our server. He was super friendly and attentive. Food was really great!!

Portions small, out of a lot of food, and not much flavor. Staff was extremely friendly.
The staff were friendly enough and the building is nice inside and out. The food is cheap basic premade stuff they heat up. That's why I'm giving 2 stars, as it's marketed as a mid ranking place, which it definitely isn't. It's overpriced like others are in the area due to the location and definitely not worth the price. I wished we'd spent our money at the local store and cooked on our fire pit like we had the night before, but we were eager to try local places. Both the places we hit (here and Espresso Y Poco Mas) were really disappointing. Save your money and skip this place - It won't add to your Big Bend experience at all and you'll be left disappointed!
The food here was great and it has the perfect dive bar atmosphere. The service was also awesome. But most importantly, they definitely had the coldest beer in Terlingua.

The High Sierra was a def experience! We sat outside as Whiskey Dick (yep, that’s the band’s name) played inside to a packed crowd. We had fun throwing the turtle for Cheez the dog outside. Had an amazing Hefeweizen, a Ruben and the pub Mac n cheese (monstrous!!!). Highly recommend the High Sierra when you’re near Terlingua!
