These guys are easy to work with and very transparent. Great place to buy green beans!
Very poor quality. I roast for a friend and I was saddened that this is what they received.
What is happening to the specialty coffee industry?
Screen size was all over the place. Website says 14/16 screen.
This is not specialty coffee. Website scores at 86+.
I will never purchase coffee from copan trade.
I ordered 100lbs of coffee, 4 25lb bags. 3 we're fine but the Honduras had about an 1/8 of the bag non-usable beans and even some rocks.
After emailing about it I never got a response. If they had emailed back and offered a solution maybe they would be rated higher.
I’ve been ordering from this company on and off for the last 3 years. I typically order a 5lbs bag to try the coffee first. If I like it. I order a larger quantity. On more than one occasion, The coffee that I sampled was different from the larger quantity I ordered. The first time I brushed it off as the coffee was reasonably good. It just wasn’t as good as the sample so I didn’t dispute it. This last time. I ordered 5 pounds of Honduras coffee and it was great. The beans were clean uniform and had a great flavor profile. I was excited to order more. Less than two weeks later I ordered 25 pounds of the same coffee, from the same harvest period listed on the website. It was completely different in appearance, taste, and the bag was full of rocks. The 25lbs of coffee I was sent is pretty much unusable. I contacted customer service and provided pictures of the difference in orders. They told me that the 5 pounds was last year‘s crop and the 25 pounds was a new arrival. I had no prior notice that I would be receiving a different crop. After admitting that there was a lapse in communication. Their way of rectifying the issue was to offer me 10% off my next order. No credit, no refund, nothing! Beware if your sampling before you buy large quantities you’re not guaranteed to get the same product and you will be stuck with a product that might be unusable!
Reply to Owner Response: As I mentioned this isn’t one simple occurrence this has happened to me before. The previous one was not as egregious as this one so I did not pursue resolution. I understand that it’s an agricultural product, and there are variances between different harvest periods, which is why I made sure to check on the website before I ordered that it was from the same harvest period. If it was a minor difference I would not have even brought this to your attention, but what you sent looks and tastes like a totally different product. I would have never ordered a large quantity if I knew this was what I was getting. I can appreciate that you’re a family owned business, but I don’t know of any business that admits fault and not try to make it right to the customer. That’s bad business practice. Offering a measly 10% discount on my next order does not rectify this issue. I paid you for a product that was not as described, and is unusable to me. You should either replace it or refund it. If you’re committed to quality as you say, then stand by your product. If you’re committed to having integrity and excellent customer service as you say, than make it right. If this issue gets resolved in a proper manner I will remove this review. If you are reading this review it means the owners did not do the right thing and you should seriously reconsider doing business with them.

We love Copan. We are a small roaster that has been ordering from them for a year now. No real issues and anything minor has been corrected quickly and easily. Prices are fantastic and the bean selection is great. Their quality is the best thing about them though. The picture below is our own roasted (right) vs a premium bagged coffee (left) from a big box store. Consistent, high quality offerings are all they offer.

I have been working with Copan Trade for approximately 6 years now, importing coffee from Honduras to Iowa. We have worked with other importers in the past, but Copan Trade is by far the best. They create a stress free process that is always seamless. They are quick to accommodate our needs, such as prioritizing the full payment to the producers initially in the process, or quickly working with insurance when we had a trucking incident with our import. We will continue working with Copan Trade based on their high level of professionalism, their quick responsiveness, and overall knowledge and expertise.

First time buyer. Received green coffee bean and was very unhappy. Theres no reason I wouldn’t have thought I’d receive a roasted bean. Hidden under the “ add to cart” is a small print option to select roasting service. I’d recommend you move that option elsewhere on the page.
We buy our personal coffee from this family-owned company. We love the quality of the coffee and enjoy the time spent together roasting our own coffee ☕
