Mel's Country Cafe Reviews
The food here is consistently great, and the service is good. However, I cannot recommend this location for business professionals who rely on internet access. Both AT&T and Verizon have little to no service inside the restaurant (I have both carriers), and unfortunately, the restaurant does not provide or offer Wi-Fi access.
During a recent visit, I lost several important business proposals because I was unable to save or send them due to the lack of internet connectivity....read full review
Ordered two fish and shrimp combo orders to go. Upon arriving home with the order, I found the shrimp to be in pieces, i.e. not whole shrimp, and saturated in grease. The fish was under cooked, the okra was good, the mashed potatoes were good.
I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the food and the prices are ridiculous. My family has eaten at Mel’s for years but no more. For $45.00 I could get a much better meal from the grocery store freezer department.
We just moved to the area from St Louis and a neighbor recommended Mel's. This was our first restaurant out as new Texans and was not disappointed! We've been several times, each time trying something new. Haven't been disappointed yet! So happy to have a restaurant we can become regulars at that is family owned. Our boys' faces light up when we say we're having Mel's for dinner!!

Mel's Country Cafe is a super nice little diner that offers great food, particularly the fried catfish with six fried shrimp, which comes with a generous portion. The restaurant serves up delicious fried Texas food, including tasty chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, and okra. While some dishes like mashed potatoes might seem like they are from a mix, the mac & cheese and green beans are flavorful. Mel's has wheelchair accessibility via a ramp, making it convenient for everyone. Food can be greasy at times, and vegetarian options are limited, but there is a kid's menu available. The friendly and fast staff, including waiters like Brendon and Madeline, ensures quick service, although it can get busy on weekends. Customers can call ahead or use Google Maps to join the waitlist and buy beer while waiting. Reviews highlight the excellent customer service and the amazing reputation of Mel's food, making it a popular choice for catering events. Many customers praise the homemade and fresh food that arrives at the table quickly, and they appreciate the large portion sizes at affordable prices.
