I went to this bakery while visiting Victoria recently. My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw that a dozen thumbprints cost $9! When I made a remark about the cost to the girl who was helping me she said it's due to the cost of eggs. The cookies are great but not worth the price. Perhaps a decrease in headcount would be a better way to increase margins as there were 6 people behind the counter just standing around talking.
Soups and sandwiches are really good here, baked potatoes are sometimes hit or miss, mostly a hit though. Sweets, cookies, cakes,& pastries are pretty good too, perfect for a person with a sweet tooth. Service is decent as they are mostly busy during the 11am-1pm hours. Tables could use more attention, wobbly sometimes dirty as it is left by customers who were previously seated there and never cleared. A true local treasure. Over all a 4 out of 5 a definite must try.
The treats are great but the attitude of staff makes for a frustrating visit. The first visit staff was just plain rude. I gave them one more chance thinking maybe the worker was having an off day. However, on my second visit, staff stood around talking and laughing while I waited for help in front of the cookies. I finally ask them “excuse me. Can someone please help me?” The person that came over was so invested in another conversation that she barely acknowledged me...
