Drove 1-1/2 hours just to try the famous Rib-eye steak. It was so worth it I would have driven 2-1/2 hours. Will be back soon. Great food, service, drinks, atmosphere and even had live music.

Great food in the middle of nowhere!Quite a small town.We drive over when visiting the Whitney area.A true classic reminiscent of the wild west.Dauber and his wife are excellent hosts.Be sure to call the day before and reserve or “guarantee” a steak for you.Excellent steak at a very reasonable price.The Hemingway sandwich is excellent but does take a bit of time to be made.Have a few drinks while waiting, the skinny margarita would be a good choice ;-)
Parking: There usually plenty of parking on the street. Did I say it is a small town?

The Bait Shop is a great place to spend an afternoon or evening! Dobber and the staff are great to visit with, and the food is excellent. Pizza crust with honey, yes, please!

We ventured out to Walnut Springs to check out Blackie's Bait Shop for ourselves after receiving high recommendations. What a great place! Dobber, the owner, is so cordial and friendly. Speaks to everyone before heading to the kitchen to cook your delicious steaks! After the meal, cross the street for Blackie's After Dark for an entertaining night at the piano bar, then stay upstairs for a restful night of sleep. All conveniently located. We had a great time!

We loved everything about blackies! The catfish was some of the best we’ve tried and everything down to the sauces tasted amazing and homemade. The staff was very sweet and the owner was one of the nicest guys we’ve met! 10/10 food and experience! If you can, book a room at the hideaway across the street! That experience was also great! Can’t wait to be back for the famous steak nights.
