Pickett House Restaurant offers a warm, old-fashioned family-style dining experience in a friendly and fun atmosphere. Located within a museum complex, it features large tables where strangers often share meals, creating a welcoming environment. The restaurant is known for its all-you-can-eat fried chicken, which many guests find scrumptious and plentiful, often leading to leftovers of chicken, greens, and peas. The menu includes classic Southern sides like black-eyed peas, greens, chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes with gravy, yams, and biscuits. Guests appreciate the responsive service, with food served in bowls brought directly to the table, and frequent check-ins ensure a smooth dining experience. The peach cobbler with ice cream receives high praise and is a popular dessert choice. While some find the basic lunch menu a bit pricey, the quality of food and generous portions make it worthwhile, especially for those very hungry. The restaurant's atmosphere, combined with its good food and friendly staff, makes it a favorite spot for both large and small parties. Visitors often enjoy exploring the nearby museum gift shop and nature trail afterward.
