AUTHENTIC SOUTHERN SOUL AND WORLD-CLASS SERVICE.

This place is the real deal. We arrived on a crazy busy night (school spirit night), but the owners' wife and staff managed the floor like absolute pros—attentive, friendly, and always checking on us. Maybe the best service environment I’ve ever experienced.
The food is just as good:
Appetizers (Crawfish Dip/Meat Pie): Absolutely inhaled them. The crawfish dip is rich and soupy (in the best way) with buttered toast for dipping. Set the tone immediately.
The Gumbo: Deeply flavorful, smoky broth with perfectly non-slimy okra.
Chicken Fried Chicken: Flaky, tender, sweet and peppery crust. Whipped potatoes and creamy comfort gravy. Pure, honest soul food.
The Cornbread: Dense and sweet—a must-order.
To top it off, the owner brought us free samples of their cornbread waffles (crispy outside, gooey inside!). This isn't just a meal; it's a generous, authentic experience run by people who genuinely care. Skip the chains and come here. Perfection.

We dined at The South in Wylie for the first time today. We tried Gumbo, Crawfish Etouffee, and The Dirty South. Really great Cajun food!

The South is an absolute gem and hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I walked in, the warm Southern hospitality set the tone for an unforgettable meal. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with just the right mix of comfort and charm that makes you feel at home.
The food is nothing short of phenomenal. Every bite celebrates the bold, soulful flavors of Cajun cooking—seasoned to perfection, rich in tradition, and clearly made with love. The gumbo was velvety and packed with flavor, while the jambalaya had just the right amount of spice to make it exciting without overwhelming the palate. And the beignets? Absolute heaven.
What makes The South truly shine, though, is the staff. The service is prompt, attentive, and genuinely kind. They go out of their way to make sure guests feel cared for, adding that extra touch that makes great food taste even better.
If you’re craving Cajun done right—or if you just want a meal that feeds both your stomach and your soul—look no further than The South. This restaurant deserves every bit of five stars and more.

Great food. Had myself a shrimp Poboy. The roll was super fresh. It’s a good amount of sauce, fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and very lightly breaded shrimp. All the flavor sang. The fried okra was definitely on point. Also enjoyed some delicious coleslaw. Creamy but also tangy that perfect balance between the two extremes. Will be back again!

The owner went above and beyond for us to have a wonderful experience! We ordered the chicken tenders and the chicken sandwich, and like my husband said it’s way better than Canes, & the ice coffee is delicious! Overall this was a 10/10! We definitely recommend this place!

Best food I ever ate it’s very rare to find a place where they actually know how to clean and cook meat properly where it doesn’t have a a rancid taste. The food was very fresh and delicious with amazing flavors I will for sure come back reminds me of my mom’s food. And the owner is very cool and respectful 💯

What a wonderful experience I had this evening when I happened upon this wonderful place. It was so busy inside, I had to wait for a seat, but the owner and his sweet wife went out of the way for me. I ordered the dirty south signature dish and let me tell you its delicious. The flavors are so robust and the portions are huge. I was offered a sample of the gumbo and holy smokes was it fabulous. I highly recommend this cool place. The food was fabulous and the atmosphere was even better

Let me tell you about this place! We were looking for a different spot to eat some fish and we love Cajun food. After reading the reviews we were like how could we not try this. We went for lunch, I got the Fat Cajun with collard greens. My wife got the Dirty South with half jambalaya and half dirty rice. Both of our dishes were out of site delicious. 10/10 recommend. Then we were finished and the owner brought us some of his delicious cornbread and red beans and rice to try. Do not sleep on them red beans and rice. Another 10/10! We will definitely be returning. My only regret is not knowing about this place earlier.

Absolutely fantastic Cajun spot. Every dish we tried was packed with flavor—authentic, bold, and cooked to perfection. But what really sets this place apart are the owners: genuine, down-to-earth people who clearly love what they do. Great food, even better people. A hidden gem.

Our first time here and we were impressed. Cozy atmosphere, football games on the screens. The owners are welcoming and generous. The food was great: jambalaya balls, cornbread for starts, fried fish sandwich and bread pudding for dessert. Everything was hot, crispy and delicious. We will definitely be back!
