Stopped into the tshirt shop to ask if they had Smith lenses, was told by a super snarky long haired male employee that I could “try the internet.” No kidding. Couldn’t pay me to spend money at any of the establishments owned by this family when their employees are so blatantly disrespectful to their patrons.

The food at the saloon has taken a nosedive over the last couple of years.

We’ve had a home in Alta for decades so we only go to the bar. Plenty of room to sit. Always a warm fire place going. Excellent beers. The nachos used to be better.Walkability: Nothing closer to the lifts than this place.

Skied Alta on a beautiful day early in the new year, 2024. Wanted a cocktail afterward. As the cafes only serve beer, I went to the saloon at The Goldminer’s Daughter. After the bartender made my drink and I handed over my credit card, he asked me if I was a hotel guest. I said no, assuming he was only asking regarding whether he should charge a room for payment. He then informed me that the saloon is only open to guests. I was unable to buy the drink that he’d put in front of me. I was the only customer in the saloon area at the time. I still can’t believe it. I had to walk away, and he had to trash the drink. Utterly ridiculous.

Came here for lunch and apres and it was very nice in the sun. Once the sun dropped it did get cold! Did not stay in the hotel.

This was a great experience from start to finish. Friendly and very helpful checkin that allowed me to hit slopes before room opened up. Ease of making bfast and dinner reservations. Delicious and wide range of menu options. Location couldn’t be more convenient.

Overall, we always love our time here. It’s a unique location and most of the staff are fantastic. The small touches for Christmas were appreciated - cookies on the door Xmas morning and they let us put a Santa sack under the tree in the lobby. We feel at home and we’ll likely be back. We also enjoyed the bingo and open mic nights in the saloon. However, this year there were changes that we didn’t love:(1) A new $25/night parking fee. If you’re local, this means it’s cheaper to Uber/shuttle up than drive, but that also means more traffic in the canyon (Uber going up and down twice, versus us once). Taking a public bus is not feasible with a weeks worth of gear.(2) Gratuity used to be included in your bill. We usually left a small extra tip at dinner, but now it explicitly states that gratuity is not included (but the service charge on your bill is the same as it used to be). Tipping at every meal adds up quickly.(3) The service at the restaurant was very slow. We waited 40 minutes one night for our meals to come out and an omelet in the morning could be a 30 minute wait.(4) Breakfast buffet food is lukewarm at best. Coffee is very weak. One morning, it was so bad that you could see the bottom of the cup.(5) You can no longer order a drink at the bar and take it back to your room. You also can’t take a drink from the restaurant down to the bar or vice versa. No more BYO in the Saloon (this one we understand).(6) No housekeeping unless you stay more than 5 nights. This seemed like a long time to use the same towels. Usually you get house keeping after 3 nights.Overall, we still had a great time. All the extra charges and rules took away from the basic ski lodge feel that we love and is pushing the affordability for us, but there’s still nothing like it anywhere else.

I prefer the buffet style meals. That they used to have. Also $7 -10 is all i want to spend for a glass of wine. Not $15. Ruins the experience for me.Rooms: Clean, adequate, .Sounds seem to travel. Hope for quiet neighbors

I’ve only been here for one day and I can already tell you it’s amazing. Amazingly helpful and friendly staff, great food, great rooms, and of course the location can’t be beat. Oh and the hot tub is also amazing - actually hot!!! THANK YOU for making our Christmas trip so amazing.

With the closure of the saloon to locals a once awesome icon is dead.

If Alta is a true skier mountain, then the Goldminer's Daughter was the hip base lodge in the 1970 and 1980, and the place still has that same decor and atmosphere (and it could certainly use an updating). I certainly would not call this a "family resort", but rather just a great location for the true skier to get immediate access to some of the best skiing in the world. Especially this year with over 800 inches of snow.
