Decent but expensive food, but they can't leave their leftist politics out of the business. Won't be back.

Some of the best food I've ever had in such an unsuspecting place. Everything is fresh. Flavor is insanely good. Service is fantastic. If you're lucky, one of the owners will come out, sit down, and chat with you. Recommend family-styling the food if you're with a group. Anything with trout here is to die for. Hardly a bad item on the menu.

Fantastic dining experience in Southern Utah. We had the biscuits, three sisters posole, cauliflower, and trout. The posole was just OK but everything else was absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere is lovely and cozy.

Just WOW! Not even sure where to start. This place has been a highlight of my culinary adventures. The food is incredible. The atmosphere even better. All of the staff is very knowledgeable of all the offering on the menu. Our server was perfectly involved in our experience. Just present enough to make things comfortable and enjoyable but not invasive on conversation or experience. It was wonderful to see one of the owners present and interacting with guests. The night we were there she even helped a Mother by comforting her baby and taking the child around the restaurant with her so the family could relax and enjoy thier meal. Very homey and welcoming expereience. This will forever be a stop when visitng the area. This community is very fortunate to have something like this to promote visitation.

Best restaurant in southern Utah, at a minimum. I flew my folks and drove 3-4 hours for a celebratory dinner here after an amazing one last year. Both were amazing. My only comment is that the margarita could be a bit stronger. I’ve lived around the world and this food is true world class, its awards are well deserved.i’ve tried both the bison ribeye (and I’m usually not a steak person) and the cowgirl meatloaf and both were amazing, cooked to perfection. The biscuits, meatballs, mashed potatoes, and chocolate custard…all amazing. Pure perfection and a great culinary destination in itself or way to refuel after a day exploring the southern Utah outdoors. The staff are also so amazing and friendly!

Phenomenal dining experience. I've been three times, and I appreciate the care, integrity, and originality of the food and establishment more each time. I live 3.5 hours away, so we make reservations months in advance and make an overnighter of it. The best in Utah and the one of the best in the region.

What a hidden treasure! We were staying in Escalante and a fellow guest mentioned the amazing meal they had the previous evening at Hell’s Backbone. We were told it was well-worth the 45 min drive and decided to head out to Boulder to see what all the hype was about. Not only is this restaurant incredible, but the drive out there on Scenic Highway 12 was one of the most beautiful roads we have ever been on! As soon as we entered, we were greeted by extremely welcoming staff and a warm and friendly ambiance. The menu at Hell’s Backbone had so many amazing items that it was a challenge to decide what to order. We opted for the biscuits, apple pumpkin soup and posole for appetizers followed by the bison ribeye and the Jenchillada (not a typo!!). Every dish was in incredibly flavourful. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, out comes the desert menu with more awesome choices. As a chocolate lover I was ecstatic to see three chocolaty options and eventually settled on the chocolate chile cream pot while my wife had the bread pudding. Her portion was so generous that she brought half of it home to enjoy with her coffee the following morning. All in all, this was a fantastic evening involving an unforgettable drive followed by an even more memorable meal. This hidden gem is definitely worth the drive even if you aren’t staying in Boulder!

Such a divine and special place!
It doesn't seem possible to order any bad choices. Our table had a lovely time enjoying a variety of dishes.
From the cauliflower appetizer to the meatloaf entree to the desert (gingerbread, chocolate pot), everything tasted fresh and on point
You should make a reservation and go!

Finally was able to make it here. Let me say it was delicious. We ordered parole, pumpkin apple soup, biscuits, meatloaf, enchiladas, chicken pot pie, bison ribeye. We were stuffed so we didn't get dessert.
