I went here after a friend told me about it. It was incredible. The Pineapple fajitas was why I went. They position was huge and served in a half pineapple. It feed myself, son and daughter-in-law and we had left overs. Their guacamole was excellent. The service was great also!
If you haven’t gone, I highly recommend it!!

Payson doesn’t have many options for Mexican cuisine if im being honest but surprisingly this little spot was actually good. Ive gone 3 times and plan on continuing. The service has been great all 3 times. The ladies attending are very attentive to people coming in the door and come up to you pretty fast to cater to you. The food is tasty and worth putting up with the lack of AC in the summer. The spot is small and I visited this summer and oh man was it hot in there. If they could fix that id give them the 5 stars because it makes eating a bit uncomfortable when ur sweating ballz

El Tapatio in Payson is an absolute hidden gem. From the outside, it might look like a small hole-in-the-wall spot—but walk inside and you’re greeted with a spacious vaulted dining area buzzing with energy, sizzling food, and the unmistakable scent of authentic Mexican cooking.

The theme here is fresh. The tortillas? Homemade. The salsa? Honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. Every bite—from the chips to the entrées—tasted like it had just come off a home kitchen stove. I ordered their signature piña dish with steak and chicken, served inside a hollowed pineapple. I’ve had variations of this dish before, but nothing compares to this flavor profile. Juicy, tender meats. Bright, balanced veggies. A touch of sweetness and tang from the pineapple. It’s a huge portion—next time we’ll likely share one and just add more tortillas.

Service was just as impressive as the food. Our server never let our water or drinks dip below halfway, and they kept our chip and salsa baskets full without us needing to ask. That kind of attentiveness is rare and appreciated.

Despite a full house on a weekday, the staff kept everything running smoothly. It’s clearly a locals’ favorite, and now it’s at the top of my list too.

There’s definitely some quirk to the place. You won’t find high-end decor or polished finishes—the cooking area is framed by plywood and brackets—but to me, that just adds to the charm. It tells you everything you need to know: this place is about the food.

Parking can be a bit tight, but it’s on historic Main Street, which makes for a great post-dinner stroll.

Authentic, generous, flavorful, and welcoming. El Tapatio deserves every bit of praise it gets.

Pineapple Fajitas 100% Fire!
Hole-in-the-wall vibes with quick service.

Honestly, they should charge more for the fajitas. SUPER great value, and they’re bomb.

New favorite Mexican food. The carnitas with potatoes is the best version of Carnitas I have ever had! Definitely eating here again.

The service was great! The food was delicious! My husband and I shared the pineapple Fajita. It was plenty of the both of us. The only complaint is the bathroom doesn't look clean and the toilet paper was gone.

The girl at Rocky Mountain ATV highly recommended it for the pineapple fajitas. I've never heard of, or had pineapple fajitas. They were very good. I definitely recommend them.

Best Mexican food in Utah County!

We came here on a weekend. It was busy and crowded. We had to stand there awkwardly in the middle of people's tables to wait to be acknowledged and seated. Our menus had salsa on them, and there were still pieces of trash on the table and floor. The food was not great, besides the salsa. The only seasoning we could taste was salt. They brought my husband's food out and had to wait about 5 minutes more for my food, and our drinks were empty. We ordered the 2 taco combo and burrito combo plates. I do not plan on returning here.

This is a small restaurant located in a nicely renovated old time charm Main Street section of Payson. Parking is somewhat difficult and limited due to the one way street. The outside of the restaurant is small and difficult to see. Once inside the atmosphere is wanting. It’s a long and narrow old building open front to back with the kitchen located in or near the middle of the room. The tables are small which makes for an unpleasant experience when all the plates are set in front of you and your guests. Plates are hot and burns are easily obtained. The noise from the kitchen was so unbearable you can’t hear across the table, we had to go outside to be free from the noise and stress of banging dishes. The food was good. Everything seemed fresh and well made. I ordered the fajitas and enjoyed the flavor and portion size. The service was very good efficient and friendly. A walk along the old Main Street afterwards and visiting some quaint old shops made things pleasant. Overall the food was good but the atmosphere was unpleasant. I will not be going back.

Food was ok but not great.
Service was slow and the server was not at all interested in her job.
Place was clean and pleasant enough.

We have eaten here before and the food has been good. Tonight we went in and waited 30 to 40 minutes for our food. They brought the food for the people we were eating with first and then we had to wait another 30 minutes for our food. When our food came, it was Cold and the cheese wasn’t melted in the burrito or enchilada. They completely forgot about my wife’s food and I had to stand up and go over and talk to them. The waitresses completely fell apart, and weren’t sure what to do and the staff in the kitchen look like they wanted to die because I was asking him where our food was. This is a very bad look for the owner because the only people in the restaurant on a Friday night were a bunch of 18-year-olds running the whole thing. Needless to say we will not be going back which is a shame because they have good ratings. The staff didn’t even say they were sorry for making us wait so long and not having food that was actually hot and cooked. If you’re reading this review, I would probably skip this restaurant at this point.
