My family has been going to this place all the way back to when Mom was still alive .she, actually loved to go there for lunch the family that runs the place are some of the most kind people you would ever want to meet and their food is authentic best Mexican food no disappointments you can't beat the price it's hands-down the place to go for Mexican food in salt lake

We walked in and the place smelled like they had a sewer break. But we ordered because we have eaten there several times. We had just purchased sodas at the next door Thirst and brought them in with us because of the heat. The waiter took our order. A few minutes later another tasteless server came over and told us to either take our drinks to the car or leave and she would go cancel our order. She also said it was against the law for us to bring our own drinks (sodas) in. Before we had even decided what we were going to do she was cancelling our order so loudly for everyone in the restaurant to hear. We severed a long time relationship with Cafe Sylvestri and will never return. Plus the smell would make anyone lose their appetite upon walking in the door.

Food was so-so. The salsa was WAY too salty and the chips were store bought. The service was poor. The waiter refused to give my friend and I separate checks, the complained that the tip I left wasn't enough. Very rude and disappointing service. I will not go back.

This place is our weeknight go-to for good value, yummy traditional Mexican fare. The chili colorado is especially great. We can always count on the friendly faces of the wait staff, and to leave very satisfied. I also appreciate that it is a local establishment, not a big chain.

Best Mexican food in Salt Lake City, i've been going there for years. All authentic and their dishes all taste amazing, very filling and perfect meal sizes! All of the staff are great and the service is top notch, try Cafe Salvestre out!!

The only dish I order here is chorizo con huevos, because you can get a taco or even chile verde anywhere, but good chorizo is hard to find. Yes, it's a breakfast dish but it's served at all hrs; it comes with rice and beans, which are both very good, but the accompanying flour tortillas are fresh, fluffy and amazing--they remind me of the fresh tortillas I used to get as a kid from street vendors on Oliveras Street in East LA. And not only are the prices reasonable (around $8-12 per plate), they set down enough food in front of you to comfortably feed three people. This is what Mexican food--at least, classic Chihuahuan style Mexican food--should be: simple, fresh, hearty, reasonably priced, and with big enough portions to take home as much as you eat while sitting in the restaurant.

Excellent experience. Safety minded, friendly and respectful service and the food was perfect! Plates were hot and cheese sizzling when the food came out.Of the 6 or 7 mexican restaurants in east Holladay/Millcreek cafe silvestre is currently winning. Beans were flavorful, portions were good and price was $1-2 less than others in the area. Simple menu and the salsa and chips were delish!!!Thank you for a great first dinner out in a long long time.

I’ve enjoyed this place for many years and it’s changed very little over that time. My favorite is the Chile Verde and the tortillas here are like fluffy pancakes. I’ve never had a bad service experience here, they’re so friendly and attentive.

Honestly, customer service was great and the staff was really nice. But the fajitas were pretty meh. The current 4.5 star rating is a little deceptive when you go looking for good mexican food.
