Had the best time with some girl friends after the Jazz game for a night cap! From the minute I reached the front door, I felt like I was entering a bar outside of Utah. The signature cocktails were delicious! They have also put together a fantastic wine list. Can’t wait to go back!

A fantastic, welcoming, and cozy wine bar! Lovely seasonal décor, welcoming atmosphere, and great selection of interesting wines. Highly recommend for a date night, or just having a place to hang out, enjoy a glass, and read a book.

Much needed addition to the wine bar scene in SLC.

I am new to the Post District area, but not new to SLC or new to wine. As a person who does not like places that are overdone, I do not go out much but kept hearing about Melancholy and finally gave it a try. The wine program is very thoughtfully put together. You’ll find unpretentious wines spanning regions and varietals (some known, others surprising) that are also difficult to find anywhere else — all of which stand the quality test of wines deserving to be on a menu as well assembled as Melancholy’s. Another great thing about the wine menu is that it spans bio-dynamic and lesser known wine makers without getting hung up on what’s becoming trendy or predictable (e.g. “we only do natural, funky wine” etc). It is just a wine list that’s curated from the position of a mature, global view — leaving you wanting to dig in on wine makers you found here. This is of course difficult to pull off, and something I haven’t found in many larger metro areas. So to have this pop up in Salt Lake City is quite special.

The bar itself is inside of a building that used to be an old Post Office (generations ago), which is incredibly unique given its location in the middle of a newer housing and retail development. Bars across an ambitious, young city like Salt Lake pop up with some regularity now but Melancholy has a feeling like one that’s been around a while. I think this speaks to the people who very deliberately put the concept together, found the right space, and then delivered an environment (staff, menu, food, and again the wine menu) that really make it stand out. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I went around 5pm and it had enough of a crowd to bring confidence, i did not wait for a table at that time of day. Will be back regularly.

The absolute hidden-gem of downtown. The attention to detail in the design makes it feel like it has been there forever. The staff were friendly and responsive. Already looking forward to my next visit.

Melancholy is such a cozy spot - dark tones and cool decor set the perfect vibe right when you walk in. Tay was an incredible bartender: attentive, knowledgeable, and clearly skilled. Cocktails were delicious, and the wine list had some really fun picks. Definitely recommend!

So happy to find this place- visiting from Phoenix and was impressed by the vibe of the is wine bar! The bartender recommended some fun wines (I loved trying the assyrtiko from Greece for my first time and the cab franc as well!) Service was great and it felt different and more upscale than many other bars in salt lake. Would recommend for travelers wanting to be impressed. I’ll come back next time I’m in salt lake!

Melancholy has an incredibly chill atmosphere, nicely appointed, not only in decor, but wine selection. They have weekly wine specials and fun and informative events. In the mood for a cocktail, call it out, the spirits program delivers. Natalie as wine director will direct you to perfect chalice of crushed grapes !

Really cool place to just relax and grab a drink. Staff are nice and attentive. I just wish they had more food options available or even a charcuterie board would be nice, but there’s other restaurants in the post district!

Went here on a date around 7p on a Friday. Loved the vibe, decor, service, and atmosphere, and the drinks were great. Only thing to be aware of is that seating is pretty limited.

Really cute bar with good drinks. Some are excellent while others are a bit watery. Surprisingly, the dolma was excellent.

This place is definitely a vibe. It’s not your typical Salt Lake City bar—honestly, it felt like I had been transported to NYC, LA, or Chicago. The atmosphere was incredible, and the location is spot-on.

The bartender was fantastic—super knowledgeable and gave some amazing drink recommendations that did not disappoint. From start to finish, the whole experience exceeded expectations.

Whether you're visiting Salt Lake City or live here full-time, this spot is absolutely worth checking out. You won't regret it.
