The library’s mission: "inspire the creation, discovery and use of knowledge for Utah and the world." Does the library fulfill this mission? It does not.The library has made a systemic push to make resources less engaging and less available. Books have been expelled into endless beige shelves, all tightly packed together, and pulled apart by patrons with a manual crank. These sandwiched shelves seem to maximize storage and snuff human engagement. Why have the books been banished from their open, well lit, browsable shelves? Well, for more free space! And the purpose of the free space? They didn't know, so they asked for suggestions on a white board. The suggestions clamored for the return of the books.Eventually, like the rest of the University, that space was designated as yet more open space for chillin'. And in a corner, for the production of 3d printed novelties that create one-second of wonder and then a lifetime of plastic pollutant for the landfill. Was space tight? I don't think so. The bottom floor boosts two snack bars and a standalone machine dispensing raw cookie dough (really). Up next: ball pit and inflatable slide. Is this a University library or a playground? You decide. As I wander at the U, I see many new buildings, all amorphous "student service" spaces. They are persistently empty and unused, while academic departments and academic resources are moth balled.I assume that University administrators measure their success by erecting new, useless buildings. Much like the Egyptian pyramids, they serve the ego of rulers and are built on the backs of servants. In this case, the servants are undergraduates paying rising tuition with stagnant wages.Come, check out the cramped floors dedicated to the Philosophy and English departments. Their finishes are so thread-bare that they would make an LDS meeting house blush. And best to ignore the math department, where abandoned elementary schools in the rust belt offer more welcoming accomodations.Oh Muses, come down from your pedastals! We are stripping your vocations to dress you in our licensed sports apparel. Time to strut for the donor class. Their money is needed to expand the stadium seating.Go shake it on the field, Caliope! Hang high our championship banners, oh Clio! Pump out those sultry Tik Toks dear Erato, and don't forget the hastags #uofu, #dontbotherthelibrarians, #vainglorybeourcause.I have much more ranting welled up inside of me. I will reserve it for further reviews of the University of Utah's misguided infrastructure policy and the deliberate crippling of their own noble mission.

Nice.....and they have a FOR REAL water fall there that begins and continues through the valley. So so a mini water park fun for pets, people and the library is behind it. Very resourceful library and they leave you alone...unless you need them. Lower floor cafe.....etc. Just big. Find your own area and enjoy.

Has changed alot since I left in 2002. Still, the stacks contain thousands of important titles that can not be found elsewhere. The non student pass is invaluable to anyone looking for scholarly books and articles that are hard or expensive to access.

Great for quiet places to study on campus. Lots of seating with tables ranging from individual workspaces to tables for large groups. Reservations are available for some conference/study areas so you are guaranteed a spot. You can find books, journals, newspapers, and more though the library, including e-books. They also house a collection of rare books on display.

Despite being a publicly-funded library...Despite being open to the public prior to the lockdowns..Despite the vaccines being widely available now...And despite the mask mandates being dropped..The library is STILL restricted to students and faculty only. This reeks of elitism and exclusionism. There is 0 reason why the library should have any exclusions at this point.

Great place to study. There is a good mix of active and quiet study locations. They have vending machines and food you can purchase. Lots of access to books, computers (including VR) and other resources. Great place to study. A lot of socializing also goes on in the 3rd level main room. However it’s not hard to find a quiet place to study. Friendly and helpful staff as well!

The workers had no idea what they were doing. After them taking 10 minutes to make mh drink, it tasted disgusting and when I asked them if they could remake it they argued that they did it right, rolled their eyes and threw it away. Then proceeded to show me the recipe, which I thought was just weird. Then when they were remaking it they realized they did do something wrong. Horrible attitudes and rude service.

As I consume my tomato basil soup from a Pepsi cup I am rather disappointed in this eatery. No plates. No cups. And the person behind the counter said she was going to bring my chicken nuggets to the table and left them on the counter. And to think we could have gone to Caputo's. Stay away!

Mom's Cafe usually has utensils, but this year they got rid of the dispenser they had out front, and now their utensils are located inside the cafe itself in smaller containers. I don't mind having to walk a couple extra steps for a spoon and fork, however, when I came in today, the container was empty. It was only noon, so they couldn't have ran out that fast, so I asked the staff if she had any back behind the counter that I could get. She rudely responded that if "we didn't put them out yet, then they're not out yet". It seems like common sense to put out utensils at the beginning of the day, but I guess things run a little differently here now.

The food is just terrible and overpriced and there's nothing else open around here. I'm mad that we're catering to coffee gourmets before there's anything to eat for people who have been in class all evening. It's very frustrating. Just stock some cup ramens and instant mac and cheese. Those cost are a dollar a piece and you could sell them for $3 and it would be an infinitely better experience. I don't understand why this place can't make their own sandwiches. That takes so little space and it's easier than brewing a coffee.
