Horrible food, it was so dry the sandwich. The soup for sure it is from the can, taste really bad. The place need an update with urgency. And the service, I better not say anything to not be rude.

I love everything about the soup kitchen. It's a great place to sit down and enjoy a good old fashioned soup and sandwich

This was exactly how I pictured it would be, based on the name. The Soup Kitchen is an old, small restaurant that has probably seen it's share of patrons throughout the years. I'd bet that most long-time Sugarhouse residents have a story about this place in their memory. Now I do, too. I visited on a cool winter day-the perfect weather for soup. My usual go-to is chicken noodle, so I went with that and it was....ok. Nothing remarkable, but it got the job done. I'm unclear on the genesis of the soup-did it come from a can, or is it made from scratch? Not sure. The breadsticks that accompanied it were a step above cardboard. That's saying a lot for me, since I can usually chow down most forms of carbs, but I just couldn't do these. Service was friendly, which earned a little higher rating than the soup alone. Also, when I was chatting later with some people about the restaurant, someone brought up how delicious the breadsticks are. Hmm, maybe I got a bad batch...or maybe I should take that recommendation with a healthy dose of skepticism. Either way, I'm not sure this will be one I rush back to.

It's a shell of what it used to be, I went recently after not going for about 15 years and the experience was vastly different from the Soup Kitchen of the 90's to early 2000's. They used to have the most delicious and flavorful soups that drew in crowds and could not be missed, cooked and prepared with love and to perfection, but that seems to no longer be the case these days.I got the clam chowder and it lacked flavor and had a weird mushy texture, it was not creamy. Nothing like it used to be. They only offered one type of breadstick these days, and it was basic and bland, dry texture... this is a far cry from the past where they offered 3-4 different types that were far superior in texture and flavor... Where's the garlic cheesy bread that they were famous for that put them on the map and that I still had fond memories of a dozen years later?! Gone!!I got a chicken sandwich and even the bread on the sandwiches are different and inferior to what they used before, it used to be a lot more buttery and dense and delicious. The chicken didn't taste freshly prepared, it seemed like it was a warmed up breaded frozen patty. The sandwich was poorly constructed and fell apart as you ate it, the toothpicks barely helped. The interior and decor is the same from when they were established, which I actually find great and nostalgic, but there is a lot of clutter around like stacked chairs and broken freezers and some areas could be cleaned and put together a lot better without disrupting the history and charm.Overall mixed feelings now, they're definitely under new ownership or management it seems, inferior recipes and love in the food and lost key menu items from the past, they've lost their edge and appeal and seem to be holding on to mostly nostalgic customers to bring business, but it's still worth a try and hopefully they can improve for the better and survive another decade or two.

This place has gone way down hill. The price for soup was insane. I've been going here forever but last time is my last time. $13 for a quart ?

This place used to be so good. It is fine now but I will only go back when it is extremely convenient. Location is the best part. Broccoli cheddar soup was gluey and a weird orange color.RIP Soup Kitchen of the 1900s

This is a great place for soup and a sandwich. Priced low and you get what you pay for. My dad really liked the Reuben.
Staff here is always so unfriendly.
