Zao Asian Cafe

If we lived locally, we would be regulars! We got a chicken bowl and a pork born and they were delicious! The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The portions were just the right size and the service was prompt and friendly. Even our 1 year old was happy with the food. Definitely worth stopping by!

The manager is so nice and funny. When you leave he says, see you tomorrow. The food is always on point.

Tasty, healthy, affordable fast food. This is our go-to for takeout (eat-in atmosphere is blah). Great for anyone with dietary restrictions—it's easy to get a balanced vegan meal, or to avoid gluten (which they keep out of most of their staple sauces & mains). Zao is much better than most of the food available in this neighborhood (except Piko, which is a whole other ballgame).

the food is good, there is no free wifi which sucks, the tables are a little dirty, and the employees look pissed and dont smile. makes the experience uncomfortable. overall not so bad. also the food is expensive. I came with friends, one of them has a hard time speaking english and they kept rushing her to choose something. Not friendly. 👎

Food was uninspired and whatever. Not something to get excited about. But the service was really great.

I’ve never been to a bad location at Zao. This one is particularly good! Right outside the heart of downtown SLC. Food was great, service was great, and the cucumber limeade was amazing as always😄 great place to go for fast casual dining or high quality food to go!

I’ve been dining at the 400S location since 2018, likely one of the first branches. Unfortunately, over the years, the experience has steadily declined. Prices have significantly increased, while the quality of the food, especially my favorite — the meatballs — has gone downhill. Portion sizes have also shrunk. The corn often seems barely prepared, like it's been plucked off a stem, so I’ve stopped ordering it altogether.

After tonight’s visit, I’m seriously considering not returning. The meatballs were overly salty, and the noodles were undercooked — how does one even get noodles wrong? It’s clear something isn’t right with this location, and sadly, it’s the only one close to me.

The staff also struggle to take orders accurately, which doesn’t help matters. While I’ve tolerated these issues for some time, I’m not sure I can anymore.
