One of our new favorite restaurants in SLC and entire menu is gluten free for those who need it.
Staff was kind and informative. Margaritas were delicious. Tacos barria were flavorful and served with a dipping sauce, which truly elevated the experience. However, the Chicken mole was stole the show. . Gluten free churros were hot and fun. Guacamole was fresh and tasty. Tomatillo salsa was great. Cafe Contento is a small and friendly place serving food made from fresh ingredients.
Wow! We ended up eating here twice during our 3-day stay in Salt Lake because it was just that good. Everything we tried—from breakfast to dinner—was absolutely amazing and full of flavor. I also love that they're totally seed-oil free. If we had a place like this in our town, we'd be in serious trouble because we'd be there all the time!
Service was fine, but the Birria tacos weren't available at 6 p.m., and the bench seating was uncomfortable. Nothing special overall—better, more authentic options nearby. Mostly a suburban crowd, which didn't match the authentic feel I was hoping for. Skip this one. Way better food options in SLC.
A family member found this absolute gem and I really hope they thrive! Contento is a 100% gluten free Mexican restaurant. The food is high-quality with lots of great expected options. I had the 3 enchiladas and it was enough for 3 meals for me! And don't skip dessert! The churros, something not normally available in gluten free, were divine!

This place was solid! One of the best, if not the best, Mexican place I’ve been to in Utah. The handmade tortillas were perfect texture, my shrimp tacos were well seasoned and absolutely dripping with sauce and juice. Absolutely will be going back! I’ll also add that even the beans and rice were amazing! Beans were well seasoned and rice was perfectly cooked! I’d highly recommend trying this place out!

We do not dine out often due to the poor food quality of many restaurants; however, when our friends found this organic, gluten-free diner, I was intrigued. The food was an absolute celebration of life. Delectable delights danced on an ambrosial causeway of artistic creation few eateries achieve. Our table ordered a variety of entrees and drinks. We started with complimentary chips, avocado and verde sauce. Very tasty. For the main course, I choose enchiladas and was curious about the horchata (rice milk soaked in cream with cinnamon), so I had this as well. Normally, I do not order specialty drinks, but their horchata was an exceptional experience as was the hand-squeezed limeade. I highly recommend both. Reading many of the other reviews that criticized the room temperature water, the service, and the ambiance, I must adamantly disagree. The best temperature for water when dining is room temperature. And their water is finely filtered and refreshing. The service may be perceived as slow, but I love being left to chat and laugh with my party. I relish this time. A meal out should be relaxing in a friendly, pleasant atmosphere without feeling rushed—and it was. The dining area is a little noisy, like most restaurants in this country. As an experienced sound engineer, I would recommend some sound absorbers blended into the corners, some appropriate picturesque art absorbers on the walls, and maybe a row of carpet down the main walkway to absorb sound and define the lovely wait staff’s path. The price: well worth it. You will not be disappointed. Spend without regret, and enjoy the articulation of tastes that shall frolic upon thy palate. Thank thee for a wondrous dining experience for a traveling bard, Frosty
This was our first time at Contento. Friends has highly suggested it and it was a pleasant surprise. Spicy margaritas, delicious food with a beautiful presentation. The service was personable and just right without interruption of our meal and conversation. We will definitely return and recommend.
We love Contento. The atmosphere, food and service are incredible. Servers are friendly and helpful with menu. Great cocktail selection and awesome Taco Tuesday specials. Love the chicken nachos and shrimp fajitas. Prices are a little high but knowing that the food is great quality and gluten free it is worth it. Really love the churros with rice pudding ice cream!
Great food and fun vibe in a small space. We love this place, especially since it's 100% gluten free dedicated kitchen. The tacos are really great, including the breakfast tacos. Great drinks and desserts too. It can get a bit too loud is my only complaint (so we try to sit up front).

I really wanted to love this place and give it a great review, especially for the amazing effort it is to create a 100% gluten free restaurant. However, there were unfortunately some not-so-great things that make me hesitant to come back. To start, the service was really poor. We were given one tiny room-temperature glass of water each at the start of our meal and then didn't have a server come back to fill up our glasses or even check in with us one time. We were rushing to our cars to get some more water by the end, and had to flag the server down to even get our bill. I ordered a horchata which was delicious, but it's $5 for a tiny glass which was mostly filled with ice, and no refills. The restaurant was extremely hot, and bugs kept landing on us and our food because there was no air flow. And when you don't have water for the duration of your meal it makes things worse. The tip options STARTED at 20%. In my book, 20% is saved for a server who at least checked in with me once or twice, and did the bare minimum. It's awkward to adjust the tip manually when they are standing there holding it for you and watching. I will say the birria was delicious, and again, it's fantastic that it's all gluten free. The food was good. But unfortunately our overall experience determined that we probably won't be back.
This place is always so good, never disappoints! I highly recommend it! Support local small businesses! Money comes ands goes, live a little.

If you’re looking for a fantastic dining experience in Salt Lake City, Contento is an absolute gem—especially for those who are gluten-free! From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere set the stage for an unforgettable meal.
The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and accommodating, making it clear that gluten-free options are a top priority here. Every dish we tried was thoughtfully prepared, bursting with flavor, and beautifully presented. It’s rare to find a restaurant where gluten-free doesn’t feel like a compromise, but Contento absolutely delivers.
Whether you’re gluten-free or not, this place is a must-visit. Can’t wait to return and explore more of their menu!
