Chak Balam Mexican Restaurant

We ordered chicken fajitas, tortilla soup (with chicken, cheese on side) and for dessert, an apple flauta. The food was all great, but two unique things stood out: the beans on the side were DELICIOUS (I even ordered extra to go); and the flauta was really unique (I have not seen dessert flautas in a lot of places).

Also want to call out the service. We weren't sure if we wanted a full mole dish, so asked to taste the sauce. Everyone makes mole different. They came back with a small tasting serving that helped us make the choice! (It was a great mix of sweet and spicy, but we instead decided on the fajitas since they are easier to eat for the road.)

Ordered Fajita - Shrimp, and 2 tacos - Octopus and Chicken. The Octopus tacos was bad and when I say bad - you cannot swallow it bad.
Go with safe options - it was ok.

Called ahead of time to confirm vegan options and the staff was awful. Wouldn’t answer my questions and just insisted I order. I steered clear of this place and recommend doing the same, as there ARE other options in Torrey. Updated from previous review on 2025-11-04

HIGHLY overpriced. Margaritas were TINY and I don’t think they even had any tequila in them. “Guacamole” was $9, was only a TINY cup, and had no taste. The rest of the food wasn’t very tasty at all. Music was way too loud for the tiny space.

My friend and I were in Utah for a few days hiking at national parks and stopped at Chak Balam for dinner. Wow, did they exceed our expectations! The chicken tamales were delicious, and the beans and rice were the best we had during our entire trip. Our waitress was friendly and our food arrived quickly. It was the perfect post hike meal, and we will be back next time we were in Torrey.
