El Rocoto is hands down the best Peruvian food in Salt Lake City! The dishes are incredibly fresh and authentic — we had the ceviche, pollo a la brasa, lomo saltado, and churrasco con papas fritas, and everything was delicious. The portions are generous, and the service is fast and attentive. The restaurant is clean, beautiful, and well-run by the owners themselves. It’s always a nice touch when the friendly owners come by to say hi — you can feel the love they put into their food and hospitality. Highly recommend! “Proud to have designed this space 🌿 – Lisbeth P. Design” IG @lisbethpdesign

Beware with trying to eat chicken at this restauran because they won’t let you order beyond a 1/4 portion! We tried ordering 1/2 chicken and they told us you can only get it to-go because it’s the restaurant’s policy. You can only order the 1/4 portion to consume at the restaurant. It sounds like they don’t want business because the 1/2 portion we were trying to order was for one person, not even to share. The menu does not state this anywhere.
It is a ridiculous policy for a specific item on the menu as it detracts business, specially if you don’t live near by to take to your house.
Do better, or update your pricing if it’s not good enough business for you!
Food is fine - but super weird that they don’t allow you to order a chicken and eat it at the restaurant. Only available to go - no mention of this on the menu. Unfortunately we have a 30 min drive home and were really looking forward to having their chicken.

Hospitality, cleanliness and delicious. Don’t miss out on this hidden gem in West Valley UT
The quality keeps improving 5/5.
Excellent seafood and delicious chicken.
Wowowowowow. My Peruvian husband and I just left this place so happy. We’ve tried quite a few Peruvian restaurants in the Salt Lake area and this one is the best so far. We had tallarín verde con bistec and causa rellena con pollo, and both were SO delicious, and each part perfectly executed. The prices are a little high for the atmosphere, but the quality of food made up for it. We will be returning often!
A Culinary Gem Elevated by Exceptional Service!
El Rocoto is a vibrant standout in the world of Peruvian cuisine, offering dishes that burst with authentic flavors and traditional flair. From the perfectly seasoned ceviche to the rich, comforting lomo saltado, the food here is undeniably delicious—a true celebration of Peru’s culinary heritage.
But what truly sets El Rocoto apart is the extraordinary service provided by Mariann. She is an absolute gem! Warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about ensuring every guest feels valued, Mariann goes above and beyond to create a memorable dining experience. Whether offering thoughtful recommendations, checking in with a smile, or sharing her knowledge of the menu with enthusiasm, she transforms a great meal into something exceptional. It’s clear she truly cares about her clients’ satisfaction, remembering preferences and anticipating needs with a personal touch that feels both sincere and rare. Her dedication and hospitality are a breath of fresh air, making you feel like a cherished guest rather than just another customer.
It’s worth noting that Mariann’s standout service shines even brighter in contrast to the occasionally inconsistent attentiveness of other staff members. While the rest of the team isn’t always as polished or present, Mariann’s professionalism and warmth more than compensate, turning any visit into a delight.
Yes, the prices can lean toward the higher side, but with Mariann at the helm of your experience, every dollar feels justified. Her exceptional service adds immense value, making El Rocoto a place worth returning to again and again. In fact, we’ll absolutely return—not just for the vibrant dishes, but for the unmatched hospitality Mariann brings to every interaction.
If you’re craving bold Peruvian flavors paired with service that feels like a warm embrace, El Rocoto is a must-visit—especially if you’re lucky enough to be seated in Mariann’s section. She’s the heart of this restaurant, and because of her, El Rocoto isn’t just a meal—it’s a memory.
I went with my father to eat pollo a la brasa. I give a 2/5 because it tasted the same as the rotisserie
chicken you get from Costco. The customer service was excellent tho.
