Closed during posted open hours. That’s inconsiderate.

Went on a Saturday and the place looked like it was going out of business. Only had ice cream scoops, nothing else, was expecting better

I came to this location three times on three different days this week and they are closed every time. Even before 6:00 p.m. on a Friday, they are closed. Do not waste your time walking down to this place, because they have either gone out of business for good, or are always closed. Very disappointed.

Shaked is never open. We went several times during posted business hours and they were closed.

Wouldn’t take business to this place they took tips from teenagers that are employed there and didn’t carry insurance and not the cleanest place if you walk into a cupcake/cookie place it should smell good and they brag on ice cream it’s already prepared from another company

So, it’s the cool thing to do these days, you know, have employees who are minors get hurt on the job and have no liability (workman’s comp) insurance to properly cover them when it happens.

You read that correctly, CHILDREN being injured on the job and no coverage for when people need to seek treatment because of it.

Additionally, the owner(s) have been collecting and pocketing tips for themselves that were designated for the employees that are actively providing the service at the time of purchase. Employees were receiving some of their tips but not all of them. Once this became a known issue one of the owners issued a message to the other employees stating that tips would no longer be collected for the business and that they could “thank one of [their] previous co-workers for this…”, the one that got injured and was not permitted by their responsible parents to return to this hazardous (and toxic) work environment due to elevated risk of liability presented by this employer.

This is the on a scale of absolute disgust, that adults would take advantage of minors by stealing cash from them that they earned. Worse yet, minors could be hurt on the job and this business did not even spend the money required to adequately protect them and help ensure their medical needs for treatment would be covered along with their pay in compensation for the time they are being put out of work for their injuries too.

At this current time, Shaked continues to expand its business by spending money on equipment such as a mobile trailer. I’m sure the “forfeited tips” from its employees helped to finance it. Shaked should be using those funds to right their wrongs and make sure their business and employees are properly insured and covered.

This place is currently under investigation over these incidents at the time of this review. They should be shut down or suspended until a formal investigation and review is completed pending the conclusion of these investigations.

My best advice is to stay clear of Shaked and avoid it altogether. Supporting this business is only further putting current and future employees (minors) at risk for lack of coverage, care, compassion and compensation should another incident occur.

As for the businesses that share a building with Shaked, I would talk with landlords and check to ensure that they are properly covered with the correct insurance. If they are willing to cut corners with liability insurance for minors and workman comp claims, who knows if they are cutting corners elsewhere and it be at your expense. I mean they are low enough to steal tips from kids….

Do not recommend visiting and/or purchasing goods/services from this place of “business”.

I don't know if I am more upset at the fact that I thought I was proud of you, and then I got the news about what you did to a minor. And not just any minor, but a dear friend's child. However, that is moot. It could have been anyone's child, and I would still be this upset. As a business owner, you should know the laws for minors. You should also know that you need workers' compensation. You should have also known not to leave said minor alone at any time in the store around sharp tools and an oven. And then you acted like a child, making posts on Facebook about this family who thought of you both as friends. Then you bashed his daughter in texts to employees, laying all the blame on her. Who is the adult here? No, I do not recommend Shaked or Abingdon Gifting Company, which has received two grants from the town of Abingdon for winning some award. I am hoping you can't remove this review like you have bad previous bad comments on your posts. Take accountability for YOUR own actions and be the adult here. Stop bashing the victim because honey you definitely are NOT the victim here. you do not deserve to have either business open.

Definitely won’t be going here after hearing what happened. Teenager gets burnt and you get mad because she left to go get burn cream?

This is your store right? (Abingdon, Va - local business reportedly under investigation after employee’s burn injury revealed the employer had lapsed or failed to carry worker compensation insurance.

In Virginia, the penalty for a business with workers, when required, who fails to carry workman’s comp is a penalty of up to $250 a day capping at $50,000 plus claim costs. Additionally, criminal culpability is also possible for the business owner with a misdemeanor violation including a fine of up to $1000 and/or 6 months incarceration.

The Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission (WCC) assesses these penalties in an open hearing. Criminal charges may be assessed locally with investigative cooperation of the the WCC. Businesses found in violation may have operating authority revoked, associated permits licenses revoked.

Due to an active criminal investigation comments are disabled.)

And Tips are getting split with the owners of this place? That’s just crazy! Them girls worked hard for it and you take half of it. I mean do you not make any money at the ice cream shop or you that broke that you have to take tips from them girls that worked there? Smh ??‍♀️

Not all great ideas are executed well. This place hit it out of the park. Fantastic atmosphere and the couture milkshakes are better than they look.
