We had a few drinks at the bar before we could be seated, which were delicious but the bar area seemed to have no air conditioning which made it very uncomfortable. After we were seated the same HVAC problem seem to be in the main dining room. We had to send my wife's filet back as it was not done to the specified cooking temperature. Also I wouldn't say this is a romantic setting as with the amount of seats in the main dining room it's like eating in a cafeteria when they're busy. Overall the food was good but for a steakhouse, in my opinion, the cut of beef for a filet was just ok
I guess they're doing some renovations so the entryway has been changed to go through a relatively crowded bar and the air conditioning was out which was unfortunate but they also didn't notify us of that and it was extremely hot and not only did they not offer any type of rescheduling or discount or coupon towards the next visit the place was dirty. There was water on the floor and it did not Meet the quality based on price.
It took a while for us to get our drinks. We never received steak knives. I asked for medium and received something closer to medium rare. The A/C was broken and it started to get hot in the restaurant.
The food was delicious. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and the restaurant presented him with a birthday card which was special. The waitstaff were knowledgeable on the menu and gifted us a glass of champagne to celebrate. My only complaint is the costs of cocktail my husband ordered (Penelope Cherry?), I forgot the name, however it costs $32. That's an expensive drink and costs should be informed to the patron up front. Parking is great because there is a parking lot directly across the street which charges $1 per hour. I'm looking forward to going back and try several other dishes. We had fried green tomatoes, braised pork belly, seafood trio, pork chop, braised collard greens and potato au gratin.
Our reservation was at 4:15 PM on July 7, and we arrived about 10 minutes early. We were seated right away, and the host was very polite, even wishing my husband a happy birthday, which we appreciated. I chose this steakhouse because my husband loves steak, and I was drawn by both the reviews and the history behind the establishment. The food was enjoyable overall, and our server provided exceptional service. I ordered the crabcake meal, and my husband had the petite filet. Although he requested it medium, it came out closer to medium-well or well-done. He chose to eat it as-is and didn't complain, but the temperature was definitely off. Unfortunately, the dining environment was uncomfortably humid, and we spent most of our meal swatting away gnats and mosquitoes. We noticed signs of a leak, and the air had a damp, musty smell. While we understand maintenance issues can happen, it did significantly affect our dining experience. One other minor disappointment was being unable to substitute the complimentary peanut butter/chocolate pie with sherbet and were told the manager wouldn't allow it. We had already ordered a cheesecake to go, and while it wasn't a dealbreaker, a small gesture like that would've gone a long way especially on a birthday. I had high hopes for our visit especially because it's a Black-owned establishment with great reviews but based on our experience, I'm not sure we'll return. I truly hope the issues we encountered were temporary and will be addressed for future guests.
Went there on a Thursday evening. While they have a wide variety in their menu, the pepper ziti was drenched in cream and very heavy. The shrimp and grits came out watery and more like a soup. Our server was knowledgeable and good overall. Appetizers were great but the entrees need work and seemed overpriced. Also noticed there were several small flies and gnats flying around the George Washington room. But otherwise the ambience was good.
My 4th time dining at 1799. Food and service has always been Good. The bread pudding is excellent. On this night our server Eric was a huge help is helping my Friend from Houston decide on the cocktail and food menu. Eric was very knowledgeable about the menu and food specials. Hats off to Eric. Met the owner, prayers for continued success.
The air conditioning was out and we weren't notified by the restaurant beforehand food was good but the lack of air conditioning really took away from the experience
We traveled from NC, NJ and Pa just to dine at 1799and the entire experience was phenomenal. My friend was celebrating her birthday and there was a card waiting at the table. Waiter recommended specials of the night and it was the best lobster that I've ever tasted. That is major because I grew up by the ocean. Steak was perfection. Crab tower had so many flavors and the corn salsa did not disappoint. The sweet potato puree that was beneath the shrimp and salmon really blew us away. Every single staff member was awesome and Albervo made us a priority. We will be back again and again. Parking was steps away! Our gratitude to the entire team.
A 7-Star Experience at 1799 Prime! From the moment we walked in for Tasha’s birthday celebration, we were transported into a realm of elegance, flavor, and top-tier hospitality

We had a phenomenal experience at 1799 Prime. The service was excellent. Our waiter was knowledgeable and made excellent recommendations. The food and drinks were outstanding. We will return.
A great restaurant we stumbled upon. The steak was cooked perfectly tasty, and two seafood dishes were also delicious. We would definitely come here again.
The food is fabulous, both filets were the best we have had probably ever, the spinach was super tasty and the citrus salad was fantastic. The server and front staff were friendly, albeit a bit slow on filling water and bringing drinks (the bar was full so that is a factor). The entrance states “bar entrance” which causes you to go down an alley past stinky trash cans, a sign states “entrance” with an arrow leading you farther to a locked/blocked door. You then go back to the bar door and walk through a crowded bar to get to the restaurant entrance. Not at all ideal or remotely sensical. Not to mention the bar patrons staring at you like you are intruding on their bar space! The music is too loud, and not appropriate for an expensive steak house, I expect classical or jazz, or quiet. Patrons were so loud I couldn't hear my wife or the server. Fabulous food aside, I don't think the atmosphere is worthy of the price, it did not give me the vibe of an expensive or romantic steakhouse. I was so happy to read there was a dress code (my wife and I always dress for dinner, especially at $200) and we were again reminded by email that there was a dress code. Sadly, the dining room was full of very casual dress and sneakers. Either enforce it or don't advertise that you do! It was very warm, to give credit we are in an extreme heatwave so maybe the a/c couldn't keep up, but it was far too warm to enjoy an expensive meal.
The restaurant is ok, there was a moldy smell that made me hesitant to eat the food. the staff need some customer service training as they rushed us and even grabbed one of my friends food at the end of the service to get us to leave. The waiter took forever to serve us and messed up our order numerous times. I was disappointed as I received good feedback about the restaurant
Upon arrival, we were treated warmly. We were celebrating my husbands' birthday and he received a lovely birthday card. Our service Francisco was top notch, kind, knowledgeable and very pleasant. Our dinners were absolutely delicious, the Branzino and prime ribeye were perfectly cooked. My husband was brought a slice of chocolate peanut butter pie, which was unexpected and also delicious. Highly recommend!
