Lured by the promise of a 'cheap eat' gem. I dove into their Bosnian Burger for lunch, a hearty choice that came with a side of some tomato and raw onions. While the patty itself was flavorful, it was crying out for a sauce companion to counteract the dryness that the bread brought to the party. The side of yogurt was like bringing a kazoo to a guitar solo – nice, but not quite fitting. Adding the tomatoes and onion definitely helped. It’s probably how tradition goes, but my tastebuds were left dreaming of a little more moisture. On the flip side, the Doner Kebab platter I grabbed to-go was a hit back home. It was like the culinary version of a warm hug – beef kebab, rice, and a side salad that apparently was just waiting for a little home-cooked love. My spouse jazzed it up with some peas and a reheat on the rice, turning it from a simple takeout dish to a ‘more, please’ kind of meal.

I enjoyed one of the sandwiches, a piece of chocolate cake and the Turkish coffee was excellent.

**Warning: BALKAN GRILL HAS THE BEST CHICKEN SANDWHICH**Fist thing first I would like to say that this establishment has the best Chicken Sandwhich I have ever had. I come to this restaurant in Alexandria Va at the very least 2x a month and have been ever since I moved to Alexandria. Completely mind blown at how delicious this sandwhich is every single time. The dressing is so rich and rare. The bread is one of kind. I have never seen or eaten anything like it. The chicken is seasoned and cooked perfectly. So juicy and tender. Truly a one of kind sandwhich that I know I will never find anywhere else in the world. The Baklava is so rich and light and full of flavor. Such a rare desert that is not easy to come by. Balkan Grill is so Authentic and I now appreciate this cultures type of food. A friend of mine Timur informed me that he believes this restaurants food is from Turkey but I’m not 100%. I just want to say thank you and give my respects to the owner and employees for the authentic food and amazing customer service satisfaction each and every single time I order. Keep up the hard work and Happy New Years! This establishment has the BEST CHICKEN SANDWICH!

Unfortunately, this place changed it's owner in the meantime, and is nowhere near what it used to be several years ago. We ate cevapcici and cheese pie, and taste was nowhere near what it used to be. I suppose it caters towards now to the Middle Eastern/Mediterranean style, as guys working there seem coming from that cuisine. It's not unedible, but it is not Balkan/ex-Yugoslavia style of food at all. It's a shame that it went downhill. On the other hand, the next-door store, Euro Foods, is with the same owner that is from the Balkans, and has all the goods from ex-Yugoslavia.

No complaints on service. The döner sandwich on the other hand was very disappointing to say the least. The meat was of the lowest quality. The chef is giving the doner a bad name.

Worst doner kebab platter I ever saw. It was one sad piece of meat over bland rice with two wilted peppers it was so sad

The food was lacking a lot of flavor and the portion of chicken on the shish kebab was not proportional to the price charged… worth $10-12

My family loves Balkan Grill. Some of our favorites are cevapcic, moussaka, grilled chicken sandwich and great fries! We usually have a somewhat large order and it's ready within 20 minutes. It's a bright clean cafe, if you choose to dine in.

I got food poisoned. I ordered cheese Borek for to go. Upon my arrival at work I realized they backed meat Borek at least day or two old. I was very hungry so I ate a portion of it and go sick after couple of minutes. I reported the story to Fairfax Health organization.Food is disgusting at this place and not even close to Balkan taste!
