My first time at Bread & Water, Belle View, Alexandria, VA. Never again. I had a BLT, bag of chips & medium ice tea. $20. First of all, too expensive for what I had. The sandwich was terrible. Way too much lettuce (had to remove some). The bacon was too thick, too chewy, had to bite down too hard, like leather almost. Skip it.

Got burnt french toast and latte (acceptable quality) on 6/14/25. Staff unfriendly and rude toward brown skinned customer. Probably assumed I was uber guy. Will not go back. Safeway next door has coffee, sandwiches and pastries.

I got waffles, and they were amazing!! The coffee was also great. I also really appreciate the utensils being wooden.

This used to be my go to bakery - the quality has nose dived over the last 5 yrs as they’ve expanded. You can’t even get a decent baguette anymore, I just picked up my last order and after getting served a baguette that two people ahead of me in line passed on because it’s grocery store quality now - I’m out. & I’m not coming back. Such a shame.

Breads and pastries are good. I ordered a couple of items at the counter including a croissant and once the lady behind the counter filled the bag, I paid and left. When I got home I realized that the croissant was not in the bag. I called the store and ended up talking to the manager who was accusing me of making things up b/c she didn’t see the charges on line. I got into an argument with her b/c she accused me of lying. I raised my voice as I took offense to her accusations. Finally I gave her the time of the receipt I still had and then she said, “Oh, I see the charge now” and refunded the money. Very poor people skills of the manager. All she had to do was ask what time I paid the bill and avoid making unfounded accusations.

Really great food, just come with absolutely zero expectation on the service side. Being someone who worked in the restaurant industry for years- I’m not normally put off by much since I know how hard the job is/ how fast a day can go bad. However, wow. Like google review wow. We couldn't find the menu so I asked the barista, literally just, “excuse me, where can we find the menus” sort of thing. No sass, no tone, no snark. Just trying to find the menu. She had both her air pods in so I asked again cause I assumed she didn’t hear me and I was standing a little to the side. She literally wouldn’t look at me and another woman who was bagging orders called over and told me they were at the register. A few seconds later the barista called out the name for a coffee, the person asked for confirmation and she spoke to him/ clearly could hear him. So yeah.

Go for good food, know that the menu is at the register, and with the expectation for a supremely miserable barista.

The manager ALWAYS over charge us, we won’t be back as long as she’s there, I bet she does it to a lot of customers, BAD business.

Placed an order online for a cake within the 3 day period and cake was never made. Ruined birthday celebration. Maybe don't offer online ordering if you don't bother to look at them.

Delicious pastries, sandwiches, and coffee! Made fresh daily and you can tell. Service was great and the staff / owner was so friendly. A lot of regulars coming in and out. 10/10 experience!

Good coffee, lunches made to order, service is neutral, prices are ridiculous. We had 2 *veggie* sandwiches + 2 lattes and our bill was $40.
See this piece of cake? It’s $7+. It’s a SLICE of cake. No gold leafing. No free taco. Just a single slice of cake. Is the actual cake $112? Is price elasticity obsolete? Are we losing all common sense or just gouging? ??‍♀️

I guess they have their target market and it’s not us.

Really standoffish service (repeatedly), weird awkward layout and vibe, everyone seems uncomfortable. Good food but overpriced plus very mediocre coffee.
