The food was delicious! Bar service was extremely slow but waiter was attentive. The biggest fault is how loud it is in the dining room. I could barely hear my friend who was sitting across from me. Also, we went for restaurant week which is a great deal, but the price of drinks was exorbitant. Guess they made up their money this way.
I called to change the reservation but got voicemail. I left a message to call me but never heard back. I went anyway and managed to get in. Everything was first rate after that.
I'm not a foodie, but the chef at Evening Star makes me realize that there really are people who are capable of making creative and perfectly seasoned dishes. Simply my favorite restaurant.
Best brunch option! Menu has all the favorites to please any appetite. Excellent bloody mary's and coffee. We had a great table right in the front windows and enjoyed some people watching. The staff never rushed us, we sat for hours talking and eating. Fairly spendy (~ &60/ea including tip: shared app, entree, coffee, bloody mary, shared dessert) but very worth it.
Great evening at Evening Star. Food was fabulous! I highly recommend the Blackened Salmon, which I had, and the Smoked Chicken and Andouille Gumbo, as per my dining partner, was fantastic! Service was excellent and the venue was comfortable, cozy and not too loud.
On a cold wintry night, Evening Star is the most comforting place to be. We were grateful that although it was not crowded and it was relatively late, we were treated generously and not rushed at all! It was a wonderful evening, delicious food and drinks, and we look forward to our next visit.
Went to Evening Star for Sunday brunch. Friendly servers but the service was extremely slow. Parties seated 15-20 minutes after we arrived had their food well before ours came out. The food was mediocre at best. A majority of people in our party barely ate half of their entrees and didn't ask for a to-go box. When the server rang up our bill I informed her I had a gift card so she deducted the balance from the bill but didn't return an itemized receipt so we guessed on how much we each owed. She ran my credit card for the balance. We were ready to leave so we did. Disappointing experience.
I've been coming here for years and it has always consistently impressed me with both great food and service. I had brunch with a couple old friends that were in town for the holidays and everything was great. I loved my pork hash and side of cheesy grits. This was a recommendation by our server Ginny who was very sweet and charming and provided wonderful service.

Evening Star is a classic and never disappoints (and it has been around for 15 years or so). All of our dishes (catfish, salmon, pork belly, mushroom ragout and chicken friend steak) were excellent.

Fabulous meal and beverages, mushroom ragout was outstanding! Great service with good understanding about how to pace food courses - unlike many restaurants that rush entrees after appetizers and then bring your glass of wine with dinner half way through the meal!
We were rookies at the Evening Star Cafe. We split a wedge salad and a burger and they split it for us in the kitchen. Great food, super service (Gabriel was top notch). My wife had a Riesling that she thought was very good. My martini was good. Why did we go there? They have an upstairs bar with live entertainment. We knew a member of the band that was playing that night. The bar has various seating options. A fun evening.
The burger is awesome

No salt or pepper for a 4 person booth. One packet of sugar and one very small cream dispenser for four coffees. Staff willing but overwhelmed, food arrived cold from a swamped kitchen.
Was able to walk in for a brunch at 12:30pm and no wait. Food was delicious, I ordered the Brisket Texas Toast with a Grapefruit Mimosa. Del Ray area has great food and this is no exception.
The vibe inside is so nice. It’s like a classic diner with some nice trinkets on the wall and beautiful, fun, industrial-ish lamps.
Definitely coming back!
