I wish I could say that this was a great place. We were really looking forward to the ambience and the dinner at candlelight. The service was extremely slow, needing to ask for water numerous times and the meal was delivered about an hour after we ordered it. The duck was so so and the prime rib was absolutely inedible. It was tough and the sides were not that good either. It's a shame because we were really looking forward to a nice, relaxing environment after the Christmas tree lighting in old town, Alexandria, but we were met with slow service, mediocre meals, and high prices.

Excellent atmosphere and historical experience. Mr Hall added realistic exposure to seating

Delicious food in an authentic 18th century setting. The beautiful, original woodwork and historical table settings make for real experience. A gentleman garbed as an elderly George Washington floats around, making clever remarks to heighten the atmosphere. A real experience.

We've been coming to Gadsby's to celebrate Veterans Day for several years now. Everyone enjoyed their dinners and drinks. Service was excellent. Dining where our founding fathers gathered is a moving experience. Jonathan Hall, the famed Gadsby reenactor, entertained us with his unique style of humor, and serenaded us with a beautiful ballad. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

We do appreciate our dining experience at Gadsby's. The whole team, and especially Maria, provides a lot of care and attention.

Dinner for four, several people meeting for the first time. Our server gave us grace as we talked without looking at menus for probably 15 minutes. The cab sauv from Paso Robles was not great. the apple salad and dressing were outstanding. The peanut soup was very good. Gracious plenty in the portions: I loved my salmon and one of my wife's crab cakes. She didn't like her crabcake though. Service was great throughout the evening. Ambiance was historic; it would've been awesome to have a fire in the fireplace but it wasn't to be. Another review cited a problem with old stairs down to the washrooms; none of us had a problem with the look or feel of the stairs.

The service was extremely slow. We had a 530 reservation and barely made it out of there at 7:15pm to get to a tour we had booked.

It's hard to judge the food quality when it comes out cold because there's only one server in the entire restaurant. I know she was doing her best, but it took us about an hour and twenty minutes to get through a pretty basic lunch order. If the service had been attentive, that would have been one thing - but they only had one server for about 30 tables - so it was nearly 40 minutes between taking our order and getting our food, and I think we had our water refilled twice in 80 minutes. Our hot sandwiches were on the cooler side of warm when we got them - but the food was plentiful, and reasonably good. They really miss out on creating a vibe here. The location is truly historic, but the building is absent any real period decor, it's lacking intimacy (so many tables crammed in), the chairs are stained and rickety, and the meal is delivered in a fairly "cafeteria" manner. I don't think we'll be back, in Old Town there are so many other historic choices for meals.

Excellent hostess led us to her favorite table! Great service and good food. Historic, of course—George ate here!

Went here 30 years ago with my parents and it was an incredible dinner experience. Went again last night and the servers weren't friendly, the drinks weren't good, and some of the food was good, but not all of it. We should have left it alone with the memory from 30 years ago but it was worth a try. Seems like it has new owners that don't care. Sad to say very disappointing.

A must for American history lovers! Our group enjoyed the meatloaf, roast beef sandwich and oyster po-boys! We all got goosebumps knowing that George Washington dined here often and the next 5 presidents also had visited this tavern! Huzzah!

If a quiet evening is in order, than this is the place for you. Good food, a higher class of clientele and excellent ambiance will be waiting for you here.

If you’re into history and good food, Gadsby’s Tavern is a must-visit. The whole place has this old-school vibe that’s really cool and unique, like stepping back in time without losing any comfort. The menu is full of hearty, tasty dishes that hit the spot, especially after walking around Old Town. The staff are super friendly and make you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. It’s definitely one of those spots that’s fun to experience and even better to come back to. Highly recommend!

Of course you come for the tavern atmosphere but the filet—amazing. So tender and flavorful with crispy potatoes and asparagus. My husband said the trifle dessert was also delicious.

I think perhaps we were a bit early, things just weren't quite ready or something. It has been really quite good in the past, so I'm sure it still is. Took a long, long time to get water and we were really needing it. Even longer to get iced tea. I don't' think their oil was up to temperature and my fried dish was very greasy instead of crispy. Very nice servers, just needed more training or direction. Very good peach cobbler right out of the oven!
