The duck here is literally one of my favorite dishes! I also really like the peanut soup and the history factor makes it very cool. Tend to go with family for special occasions.

We've been to Gatsby's a few times and have always loved it but this time felt different. The candles are no longer real and the wait staff was not dressed in the old fashioned garb. The bread was cold and the food was extremely salty (the crab Mac specifically with little crab). I know these all sound like small things but they added up. We were so excited to bring friends there who hadn't been and we all left a bit disappointed. Please bring back the old Gatsby's

Food was pretty good, very historic place and interesting to visit...don't understand why such a historic place has to place pride banners in their museum window.

This was the first time in at least 10 years that we'd dined at Gadsby's, and it was a big disappointment. We were there from 6:00 to 7:40 on a Saturday night. Other than the building itself, it was not the unique experience of years past. The servers and hostess were not in period costumes. There were no costumed musicians or reenactors. The wooden dining table surfaces inexplicably had most of the varnish stain worn off, not in a "distressed wood" finish way but in a "this place hasn't been maintained for decades" way. The majority of items on the menu did not have a colonial bent; gone were dishes like Virginia ham, baked turkey, cornmeal, or brown betty. Service was OK, but not at all attentive. In fact, there seemed to be just one waiter for the main dining room with maybe 10 tables in it, almost all full. The crab cakes and broiled salmon were good, but nothing particularly special. The chicken pot pie resembled Campbell's cream of chicken soup poured into a soggy pastry shell in a white china bowl (not pewter like one would have seen 20 years ago). Sadly, this so-so food and ambiance was accompanied by higher prices than they would justify. Broiled salmon over pearl couscous was around $36; the modest serving of the afore-mentioned chicken pot pie was around $27. The biscuits and ham appetizer was good, but $15 or more for four small sliders? We used to love Gadsby's as a fun experience, and as a unique place to bring out-of-town visitors, but we can't recommend it now, especially at a price of around $40 each for sharing one appetizer and no drinks or dessert. Would only rate 2.5 stars but for the experience of dining in a building where George Washington and Thomas Jefferson also dined.

We enjoyed lunch at this historic old tavern from the days of George Washington who celebrated at the Gadsby's Tavern. Take tome to look around and imagine what it must have been like in the days of George Washington to find George and Martha Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and the marquis de Lafayette at the tavern crafting the history of our country.

Washington's duck dinner Washington ordered all the time was outstanding!! Peanut soup never fails to disappoint me. Service was nice..., very pleasant servers. Ambience was great. I missed having the musician who usually performs during the holidays there and the resturant could have been decorated more for the holidays like it has been in the past.

Absolutely wonderful! The atmosphere and food can't be beat, especially if Early American history is your thing! Highly recommend!!!

Beautiful historic restaurant with lots of holiday charm. I had the most lovely meal with my family. The staff are so kind, sweet and attentive. They made us feel so welcome and special on a birthday occasion. The chicken pot pie, honey ham appetizer and peanut soup were delicious, as was the gingerbread desert. The stone fence and other cocktails hit the spot. And they have a really varied and delicious kids menu. Will definitely be back! An Alexandria gem.

I really enjoyed having a colonial Virginia experience in the DC area. Just 10 minutes from the Reagan airport. I haf the peanut soup and a colonial cocktail called Stone Fence made with Rum, hard apple cider and bitters. You can get it sweet or unsweetened. Parking is easy at the Tavern Square Garage.

This is a fun restaurant to come to in Alexandria. There's a lot of history related to this place, including some ghost stories. The prices were surprisingly reasonable given the location and atmosphere, and we were able to get in fairly quickly on a Saturday late afternoon. The service was great.
