Ordered the Italian sandwich. Good value at 9.99. Fresh homemade(soft) roll-hopefully that's your thing. I would appreciate a hard roll option. They left my pickle off the order by accident, but no big deal. I'll return if I'm in the area, but I won't go out of my way

Stopped by to get a couple bagels today and was informed that they have changed the model and now serve pizza. NO BAGELS!!! I'm so sad!

BAD NEWS!!!! NO MORE BAGELS and has been replaced by pizza?!! Walked in and was informed that they would no longer be serving bagels and Gregg had left. Gregg - please open a new shop, the Bagels were amazing.

Agree with recent reviews that the bagels are just not the same. The bagels were fantastic on our first visit a few weeks ago. My daughter and I returned this past weekend and it was so disappointing. The bagels tasted like day old bagels; incredibly chewy and tough. We went around lunch time so I also wanted a sandwich for my hubby. They were not serving sandwiches nor bagel breakfast sandwiches. Pizza was available so I got the lunch special. Sadly the pizza was cold. It wasn't bad but not really NY Pizza either - the crust was a little too thin according to the hubby who is from NYC area. Two ** primarily for the pizza.

We were going for something quick so we could wander old town - and this place did the trick! We tried the everything bagel with and without the smoked salmon - both were excellent. The bagels are crunchy on the outside while being the perfect consistency on the inside - no need to toast the bagel! Can't wait to head back here next time we're in town to try more of their bagels.

Stopped by earlier this morning (12/6) and was informed that sadly Gregg is no longer at GWB. Gregg was the gentleman responsible for the superb bagel recipe which somehow were perfectly crisp on the outside yet soft and chewy on the inside. Unfortunately the bagel I ordered this morning was simply not on par with the previous bagels I've had at GWB. I imagine there will be something of a transitional phase as the owners of the Italian restaurant reorient and repurpose this business.

Fantastic! Best bagels in the DC area. Fresh local lox too and very friendly staff. A new favorite spot for me.

Bagels at Genuine Water Bagels are delicious, especially the everything bagel. The bagels are fresh, tasty and are nice and chewy. Lox is from a local purveyor, nice to know exactly where your lox is coming from. The staff is very friendly and the prices are reasonable. This is a perfect place to have bagels and coffee before or after Church.

Fantastic bagels. We moved to Alexandria from NYC 2 years ago, and have searched high and low for good bagels (even going to DC, Tyson’s and Bethesda). The search is over and lucky for us it’s nearby. So glad they open earlier now.

Best bagels outside of NYC and the pizza is right up there with the best in the country. This place is amazing.

The bagels here are definitely similar to the ones found up in New Jersey/New York although they are best enjoyed immediately since they don't retain their texture as long as other ones I've enjoyed up north. Not sure if it is the water used or the fact that they are a little more compact. Cream cheese is pretty standard, but compared to the mediocre competition, the bagels are as good as it gets. While I would give the bagels 4.5 stars, what pushes this place to a 5 is their pizza. Available as a whole pie or as a lunch special with two ridiculously generous slices plus a fountain drink for 6 bucks, this is as authentic a New York slice as one will find in these parts with a killer thin crust, and well proportioned cheese/sauce that will be sure to occasionally burn the roof of your mouth since one can't help taking repeated bites without restraint. It is the unsung hero that supersedes the namesake. I'm sad I no longer reside in the area as it would be a weekly ritual to come here for lunch.

I've lived all over the country, including NYC, and these are some of the best bagels I've ever had. These are proper bagels, not chain shop fake ones. Don't toast them. Don't let your friends or co-workers toast them. It's just wrong.

Amazing everything bagel with cream cheese. Bagel had just come out of the oven. Great addition to the neighborhood!!

I've attempted to go here twice now for a lox sandwich on an everything bagel, however both times they ran out of everything bagels and then some. The first time they only had poppy seed bagels left and the second time they only had plain and salt bagels left. Here's the catch, both times were before noon and the store closes at 3pm on the weekends. Bad business for a bagel shop to consistently run out of the majority of their bagels a least 3 hours before it closes. Either make more bagels or close 3 hours earlier so at least it's justified to run out of most of your bagels by noon.

Fabulous bagels! They just need a toaster.
