We ordered a gender reveal cake from Hollin Hall. They were able to make the exact cake we wanted. Pick up was very easy and the price very fair. Cake tasted great! Thank you!

Opened in August 2000, this pastry shop is owned by Mel Meadows, a self-taught pastry chef. His career began in 1981 at the Congressional Country Club, and his experience grew at a top regional caterer that provides service to dignitaries and heads of state. With a history like that, I felt a visit to this shop was needed. There were many individual sized desserts in the display cases, along with croissant sandwiches and slices of quiche. My wife and I bought 7 items. 1) Pecan Sticky Bun It had a croissant like texture that was light and airy with stickiness from caramelized sugar glaze. There were lots of candied pecans stuck to the underside of the bun. It was mildly sweet with light flavors of butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar. The flavors were well-balanced, which made this easy to eat lots of without becoming sickening sweet. 2) Butter Croissant It was light, airy, and fluffy. The exterior was crisp and flaky while the interior was soft and slightly chewy. Perfection! The buttery flavor with its natural blend of sweetness and saltiness was perfection also. 3) Cinnamon Roll It was large in size and had a sugar glaze with lots of raisins. The texture was light and airy like the sticky bun. The cinnamon flavor and sweetness were moderate and evenly balanced. It had light flavors of vanilla and butter. The raisins were juicy and sweet. This was extremely well-made and not too sweet, like most cinnamon rolls. I suggest putting it in the microwave for 20 seconds. It'll be very tasty, soft, and warm. 4) Strawberry Cheesecake You'll notice that it's quite short for a cheesecake. I think the reason was to make the flavors of the cheesecake and the topping match in strength. It works! The beautiful balanced flavors went well with the mild sweetness. The sweet strawberries had a natural flavor with a hint of tartness. The cheesecake was rich and creamy. It wasn't too dense, which made it a light dessert overall. This is perfect for the times you want cheesecake that's not thick and heavy. 5) Passionfruit Mousse Pastry It had dome shaped mousse sitting on a shortbread cookie with whipped cream, a blueberry, and a wafer of white chocolate on top. The mousse was citrusy and had flavors similar to pineapple, kiwi, and mango with a light background flavor that wasn't appealing. It had an unidentifiable odd taste. The mousse was thick and velvety smooth. The cookie was soft and typical in flavor. The blueberry was slightly sweet, and it tasted fresh. That's attention to detail! If that odd taste wasn't there, this would be a great refreshing dessert. Regardless, I still like it. 6) Two Chocolate Mousse Cake It had 3 layers sitting on a dark chocolate crust and topped with shavings of white and milk chocolate. The shavings were thin and delicate with light flavors. The top layer was white chocolate mousse, the middle layer was yellow cake, and the bottom was milk chocolate mousse. The lusciously creamy mousses were lightly sweetened, so the chocolate flavors shone through. The yellow cake was soft, moist, and light. The crust was soft and moist with a mellow dark chocolate flavor. This dessert was a masterful blend of delicate flavors to create a deliciously rich and wonderful chocolate dessert. 7) Ham and Cheese Croissant sandwich It had 3 thick slices of ham, 2 thick slices of provolone cheese, lettuce, and tomato in a croissant. They offer packets of mayonnaise and mustard. The croissant was the same great butter croissant as above. The ingredients were of high quality. It was very good, but there was nothing special about it except for the croissant. The service was informative, helpful, and polite. They have chairs and tables indoors and outdoors, but there are only 8 tables inside and 3 tables outside. The shop and restroom were clean. There was no sign for the restroom. It's through the doorway on the far right. They are located in a suburban neighborhood with plenty of free parking in the lot out front. They close every day at 2 pm, but they may run out of items before then. It was

My husband and I chose Hollin Hall Pastry Shop for our wedding cake and extra sheet cake. Everything was DELICIOUS, displayed beautifully, and the service was efficient and prompt. The delivery person worked well with my coordinator. I can't wait to have our anniversary cake here!

Cream puff was fantastic! The cookies were just okay. Something seemed off, but I'll try it again sometime.

Love finding local gems. Hollin Hall Pastry Shop is a little Cafe tucked away in an unassuming strip mall. I only found out about this place while waiting on my car to be fixed at the auto shop next door. The pastry shop has a nice selection of pastries and sweets along with a few croissant sandwiches. They also have creative coffee flavors like the Smores Latte and Nutella Latte. I got a nice community vibe from this shop. Seems like a place where neighbors bump into each other or meet up for coffee and conversation. I appreciated the quick and friendly service and will certainly be back.

Overall I would go back but I have had a mixed experience. They have the BEST muffins, I go there weekly. Based on that for Thanksgiving, I bought a $30 sweet potato pie. I was surprised it was a thick deep dish but it looked great. Unfortunately we only ate a little. It was not like any sweet potato pie we ever had, there was little sweetness to it and the crust was bland. It might have been made with yams. I can't recommend the pie but I think it was a one off. Happy to go there again.

I worked with Amparo to design personalized cookies for my photography studio Christmas mini session event. Each cookie had the child's name on them and they were adorable!! The kids and parents loved them!

This is one of the best pastry shops I have ever been too! Their coffee is quality and the baked goods are incredible!! It is worth the drive from Alexandria to little Hollin Hall any day of the week. Also, the staff is very friendly and efficient as the wait in line is never very long. You must visit here!

They made a beautiful 'sushi' cake for my husband's 30th birthday! They were very responsive and worked off of an image I gave them to make a cake that was exactly what I asked for. The cake was also delicious! Very reasonable pricing as well. Will be going back again for future birthdays!
