La Madeleine Bakery is conveniently located in Old Town Alexandria, in close proximity to the waterfront. There is ample seating, much more indoors than out. The ambiance inside the spacious restaurant is cozy because of the design, with a shelving unit holding specialty products dividing the space. Immediately upon entering the bakery, guests are transported across the pond to France. This is especially evident when you step into the restrooms, where basic French lessons are piped through the speakers. The oversized framed photographs hanging on the walls depict iconically French scenes. The baked goods shared between me and my sister were delectable. The unique Nutella® Croissant Muffin (Nutella®-filled croissant baked in muffin pan & finished with pearl sugar) was magnifique! When we finished our treats, I was searching for a bussing station that doesn't exist. I understand that the staff may want to have used tables be easily identifiable, but in similar eateries, I am used to clearing my dishes and discarding trash. We conjured up wonderful memories for a longtime Alexandrian now living in Florida when we called her from her go-to place in the "Port City."

I had the grilled cheese and bowl of tomato basil soup. Both were excellent. Too much food. Came with a side salad or small pasta salad which was also yummy but I couldn't finish the pasta salad and I'm a big eater. Dear wife had half sandwich and veggie soup which was also very nice. I'm a sucker for tomato soup and grilled cheese, and on a rare snowy day in Alexandria, this really hit the spot. It was $40 after tip, so not cheap but I would absolutely order this again.

I’ve ordered delivery and it was always quite good but in-person was a let down. The inside is beautiful but the service was quite poor. They didn’t have a menu visible and got annoyed when we asked for one. Then when we asked what was in the chicken salad, they kept saying “it’s chicken salad.” I ordered the potato soup that I’ve had several times before but they left off the cheese and bacon. First soup spoon I pulled out still had food on it. Their tomato soup in the jars is absolutely amazing though. Just didn’t seem like they took pride in anything beyond the beautiful building

If you’re looking for delicious food served with some French arrogance and a lack of patience, here’s your lunch spot.

Lots of seating, wonderful menu, an aggressive server WHO LACKS ALL PATIENCE KNOWN TO HUMANITY, followed up by a sweet cashier who greets you with “Bonjour…”

The cafeteria-like trays will give you a little time to see what some of the hot options are. But be ready to give the Soup Dictator your order without delay, or you will be pummeled with French impatience and exasperation.

Enjoy a little taste of France in Alexandria. Be sure to try the tomato soup.

The food was delicious, but the staff’s behavior was unusual and made us feel uncomfortable, which affected our dining experience. Additionally, the forks and spoons were very old and even appeared rusty.

Service was great but the food was so bad.
The crepe was thick and cold, the nutella watered down and it seems like they picked the worst strawberries lol
It's an Olive Garden for french food

Parking: Sometimes the parking lot is free in special occasions and parking is not related to the restaurant but to the street, because the pier is near by and a lot of activities over the weekends, you can take the ferry to go to National Harbour, parking is less expensive the side of Old Town Alexandria.

Wheelchair accessibility: Yes, the door is near to the parking lot area, but not inside the parking lot you have to walk out the parking and pass the real estate office and then La Madeleine 1st entrance will be next, 2nd entrance which has double doors will be in the corner.

Service was terrible/ got back to the hotel to have the desserts and was extremely disappointed!!!!!! The bakery goods were old tasting. Like they were a few days old! The prices were ridiculous as well…. Do not recommend

I recently had a wonderful experience at La Madeleine! I ordered the Chicken Caesar Sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious—perfectly balanced flavors that left me wanting more.

The service was exceptional, thanks to one of the team members, Serkalem. From helping me choose the sandwich to bringing my food to the table and assisting me with anything I needed, she went above and beyond to ensure I had a great dining experience. Her warm and friendly attitude made my visit truly memorable.

I will definitely be returning to this location soon. Thank you, Serkalem, and the whole La Madeleine team for such a delightful experience!

A/C is currently broken, and the temporary solution doing very little. It's 70 outside, so not sure why they don't prop a door open. Be aware it's incredibly hot in here before ordering, or do yourself a favor and walk across the street to Tate.

Update on 10/31. A/C still broken so they aren't looking into anything

I will give them 5 stars not because of the attention, they should have better customer service with a sparkling vibe, the beautiful place should be considered a historical place, it is beautiful. The rest of the restaurant is killing it but like I said. Their ATMs and service should be more vibrant

I gave it a 3 because this is the second La Madeleine’s I have been that had empty coffee pots. Love their croissants

Disappointing. The only thing remotely French about this establishment is its name and the piped music. Coffee from an urn tasted burnt, croissant was rock hard. Certainly not worth the $40 we paid for two ‘French’ country breakfasts. Should have gone to Bod and Edith’s diner.
