We have had two parties at MacMillans Spirit house and both were fantastic. The staff is always very attentive (Thank you Robert) and the selection of wine, cocktails and food fits everyone! Highly recommend for groups!

MacMillan Spirit House is the neighborhood bar you always wanted, whether or not you live in the neighborhood. A few streets over from King (which TBH adds to the neighborhood feeling), MacMillan serves up good old-fashioned service and perhaps an unexpected, elevated menu. Bar Manager Eleyna is an experienced pro who knows just what you need, including seasonal cocktails (the one I had was the essence of Fall). At MacMillan's you can relax. Enjoy. Belong. Don't rush through the tender, melt-in-your-mouth lamb tenderloin. Get nostalgic with the Guinness Beef Stew your grandma might have made. Warm up with creamy shrimp and grits. Celebrate with the best steak and chimichurri you've ever had. Your favorites are here at the bar, on the patio, in a cozy booth. The flavors are bold, the dishes crave-able. The young professionals, including new Head Chef Cole van de Vijver, at MacMillan's survived a time when we needed them but couldn't go to them. They needed us, we needed them. They have honed their craft. Now it's their turn to shine as they do what they were meant to do - provide the great food, the hospitality, the community we all need and are meant to have. Their passion is to serve you and give you the experience you need to relax, settle in... and enjoy.

Found this place on TikTok, listed as a nice sports bar. The bartender lacked quality customer skillset. I will never return.

Luna and Landon are the best bartenders in Old Town! Great service and great drinks. Grab the Breakfast Skillet on the weekends for brunch. You won’t regret it!

We were here approximately one year ago for dinner and whiskey with friends. We decided to come back and try brunch/lunch and are sorry that we did.

Nobody was there to greet us so we walked around toward the bar area and there we saw a sign that said “see bartender for seating”. This should’ve been the sign to leave. There were approx 8-10 people in the place at this point.

We ordered iced tea, Monte cristo and tots, and a burger and tots. What they call a Monte Cristo can only be described as a grilled ham and cheese.

The burger was approx 1/4” thick - not even close to what I would expect for $19 and well-done (not the medium I ordered). I understand why it was well done - the patty was so thin.

We called the cook out to speak with regarding the thing they call a Monte Cristo. We asked if he understood it should be deep fried. His response was “That’s what the owner wants us to serve.”

Look at the picture of what they consider a Monte Cristo - yeah - seriously.

The bartender was great and she went above and beyond to try to help, but you just can’t help bad food.

I’m not sure who the owner or owners are, but the menu, food quality, and quantities need to be addressed.

The only winning thing here is the huge selection of whiskey. Oh - and the bartender who helped us try to salvage it - she was amazing.

Enjoyed a fun ladies happy hour on the patio. The staff was attentive and friendly. If you order on the happy hour and sign up with your phone number you can get points from what you’ve paid and use it for later enjoyment. It paid for a free glass of wine later. Can’t beat a free wine!😉 Pass on the spinach bites but did enjoy the wings.

Couldn't ask for a better a all around experience, especially if you're looking for a great collection of spirits in Alexandria. The team behind the bar knows what their doing and actuall care. The new head chef consistently puts out great food and actively plays with new phenomenal rotations.

I stopped here for brunch with some friends recently and was sorely disappointed. The service was slow and inattentive, forgetting multiple requests that were made upon ordering (sides, extra sauces, etc.). The food was cooked pretty poorly. I ordered steak and eggs and both my steak (ordered medium) and my eggs (ordered over medium) were way over cooked. My friend also ordered steak and eggs with the steak cooked rare and it was barely cooked at all. By the time the food made it to the table it was cold, and we had to ask a few times for the items that had been ordered but forgotten. I noticed a table next to us that sent under cooked steak back, as well. If you’re dining in the area, I’d suggest finding a different spot.

I was really excited for a new brunch spot in the north old town area but unfortunately MacMillan’s did not hit the mark. Although we were quickly seated, service was very slow. I ordered the Highlander breakfast but my order came out without the pancakes. My scrambled eggs were very overcooked and had no seasoning. Others at my table also experienced dishes that were also subpar including steak that was served rare. A table next to us had to send a steak salad back due to being too rare so food quality appeared to be a common issue. Our server never returned to provide the check so we had to go up to the bar so we could pay and leave. I would not recommend this establishment based on the service and food quality issues experienced.

Went for brunch, the food was inedible and had no flavor. Ordered the steak (medium rare) and eggs (poached) with a side of hollandaise - the steak was rare (almost raw) and had no seasoning or flavor. The eggs were poached in water with too much vinegar and just tasted like vinegar. I didn't receive the side of hollandaise and had to ask multiple times. Once received, the hollandaise looked off, it looked like a raw egg yolk and I didn't think it would be safe to try. The iced coffee tasted watered down and bland. There are so many better places nearby for brunch. SKIP this one.
