We were rookies at the Evening Star Cafe. We split a wedge salad and a burger and they split it for us in the kitchen. Great food, super service (Gabriel was top notch). My wife had a Riesling that she thought was very good. My martini was good. Why did we go there? They have an upstairs bar with live entertainment. We knew a member of the band that was playing that night. The bar has various seating options. A fun evening.
No salt or pepper for a 4 person booth. One packet of sugar and one very small cream dispenser for four coffees. Staff willing but overwhelmed, food arrived cold from a swamped kitchen.
We absolutely loved every single course of our restaurant week dinner here. Can't believe it wasn't more crowded!
So sad to see a neighborhood staple and go-to for so many special occassions coming apart in just about every regard. Quality, consistency, innovation, options, service, and price all trending very badly in the wrong direction over my last two visits (July and August). Sure hope that the owner and manger can pull out of the spin.
Amazing food, great drink selection, and the staff was very friendly. Great prices and value. Food was cooked perfectly.
Great friendly service, awesome atmosphere and a killer location.

Evening Star is always a nice option I treat myself to every couple of months. Service can be off sometimes, but the food is always above average in tastiness, freshness, and affordability compared to the other restaurants in Old Town/Del Ray. Something for everyone when it comes to options.
Went to this place to get a drink and it was filled with drunk over served people. On guy was so drunk he fell over slamed my wife in to our table and spilled her drink everywhere. He was not kicked out and no one even checked on my wife... Then the bartender said he was "cut off" yet he sat there and continued to drink the beers that were at the table. Poorly managed bar and will not be coming back.

Went to check out the Restaurant week offerings and they delivered. Had a lovely dinner in their outdoor patio. We had the roasted Brussel sprout and grilled watermelon salad as starters, and for entrees the roasted chicken (very juicy) ad the chicken Bah Mi sandwich. Dessert was a flourless chocolate cake and a carrot cake which we ended up taking home and having it for breakfast as their portions were generous. Service was attentive, and the selection of beers was great and the fact they had tasters for all the drafts offerings was fun as we got a little beer tasting by ordering 3 different tasters. Will definitely comeback.
Everything was great. It was very quiet but we were a very early dinner so maybe not typical if you eat at a normal time. Food was wonderful, cocktails as well. Service was on top of all our dumb needs as we were dining with a 4 year old.

Our group of three had not dined at Evening Star in several years; we picked the right night to return to sample the Evening Star Restaurant Week menu. An extensive selection of appetizers and entrees were available. The generous bowl of gazpacho with crostini was our favorite appetizer, and the grilled salmon over a bed of pureed white beans with cannellini beans and cherry tomatoes was our favorite entree. The weather was perfect for outdoor dining in the Evening Star patio/courtyard.
I ordered pancakes with blueberries added, it was under cooked, I ate pancakes batter, Steak and scrambled eggs, steak had a really bad smell as if meat was old and eggs came out damn near raw. For two people I payed like $106 not worth it at all. Never again!

This place way back 20 years ago was unique and really good. The green tomatoes had no taste and flavor. The lamb shoulder was reheated and the pasta overcooked. The waitress couldn't open the bottle wine ( I actually opened it for her) Who is cooking and where is the manager!
We went to ESC more of less regularly several decades ago. We decided to return to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was excellent across the board; neither my wife nor I could choose which course we thought was best. The service was a bit slow. We weren't in a hurry so it wasn't a problem, but it was noticeable. We plan to return when we're not celebrating.
