I don’t ever leave reviews due to my laziness, but today I decided to leave my very first review for this lovely place! This is our first experience at The Study. I honestly didn’t know what to expect as the restaurant seemed quite small.
We knew about the l live piano performance but it exceeded our expectations. Derek’s performance was so lovely and he sings really well! We love musics like such so it definitely made our experience even better!
Sean served us and he is absolutely a pleasant person to be greeted by - very friendly and sweet. Take his recs!
The food? It absolutely blew my mind - so healthy, clean, yet very flavorful. I can tell that ingredients were very fresh. We had arroz con mariscos and fried fish with avocado rice. I got obsessed with the avocado rice that came with the fried fish - rich in olive oil and lime (i think)! We absolutely cleared our plates leaving nothing behind. Chef Guzman gave us complimentary gaspachos and desserts for us to try and she came to ask how things were, which I thought was lovely.
Cocktails - delicious!! we had the one with coconut cream and another one with guava. SO GOOD! I think we’d even come back just for the drinks as well.
We already know that we’ll be back here again very soon. Before coming in I thought it was a bit pricey but having had the experience the experience is worth every penny. I highly recommend for cozy family dinners and date nights. You won’t regret!!
What an exceptional dinner. The mixologist created some amazing drinks, one of which was not on the menu. It had an egg white foam so that makes it healthy, right?! We got the salmon (tripadito - spelling off I’m sure) and the ceviche as apps. Both yummy! Highly recommend the salmon dish - we both stopped just short of licking the plate. My wife got the duck. Her comment was “I’ve always get duck and this is the first time in a long time that it looks and tastes exactly the way I want it to”. She loved it.. I’m not a duck eater. I got the waygu steak. Holy moly it was so amazingly good. It wasn’t a huge portion, but perfect for me. Service was great, definitely looking to please and make sure we had a nice time. The chef also delivered the meals, which was a nice touch. We had room for dessert, but we are obsessed with Jeni’s ice cream, so we walked there and grabbed a cone. Great date night!
Wow.... Great food, even better service, and the music was the best. Loved Derek on the piano. It wasnt too loud and or too soft. Every drink and food item was on point. The smoked Twin Ambassadors were delicious! Don't pass on the cevichitio either, you won't be disappointed. We also had the bistec encebolladilo (wagyu), pork iberico, and arroz con mariscos. Everything was cooked to order and so delicious. Oh, dessert, the chocolate sampler (really just one piece of delicious cake) and the tres leches were great! We will certainly return.
Went above and beyond my expectations. Made a reservation and gave a reason for celebration and was treated wonderfully. Champagne from the bar and sweet treats from the chef—on the house. Portions were small but the flavor and care put into each plate more than made up for it. Cocktails were delicious. Amazing player and singer on the piano starting at 6 p.m. Would return.
We love going there to listen to piano. Mani the bartender is amazing and so friendly! We love his energy!
Our party had an excellent time at The Study at Morrison House. This place is a perfect hidden gem. Excellent, friendly, and fun service. Cocktails came fast and delicious but the food really took things over the top. Our waiter was well informed and knew each item well, we tried a variety of dishes on his recommendations and everyone was thrilled. Chef Tomas even stopped by to talk to us about our dishes, his inspiration for the menu, and gave us a comped treat at the end. Live music was a nice tough too. We were celebrating (and a little raucous) with friends in town but we'll be back for a quiet drink and bite or maybe even another celebration soon.
Excellent! We were blown away by each dish, on the two nights we stayed at the Morrison House. 1st time we ate at the bar while listening to lovely piano-playing. The 2nd night we reserved a table at the Study & the ambiance & food were both phenomenal. Sean, our server was so friendly, funny, & attentive! Loved every dish & moment there!
We went to the banned book speakeasy and it was really fun. It was silly but we had a great time. I hope they do it again soon.
Had another fantastic evening out at The Study. Manny’s (bartender) drinks are beyond fantastic, Rodney’s (server) menu recommendations were on point, Maddy’s (sous chef) amuse bouche and dessert were balanced and deliciously unique, and Tomas (chef) expertly upgrades typical fish and steak with flourishes of Costa Rican influence. The “banned book speakeasy” theme was the cherry on top. We’ll be back! Probably next week…
What a wonderful surprise! We had not been in years, and we are happy we decided to return. Our server Rodney was very knowledgeable and attentive. The food was delicious with many interesting flavors and combinations. Only downside was the noise level was a little high as we were seated near the bar. But we will return!

An extremely well tailored experience with amazing service and the atmosphere of a cozy den or "study." Where you can get amazing cocktails from what is probably the best bartender in Alexandria. Live music most nights as well.

The empanada appetizer was delicious with a light dough. The squid sample that the waiter brought to us was tender with a kind zesty sauce. The beet puree with my entree was delicious. Best of all, the chocolate sampler was one of the best chocolate desserts I've ever had. It felt like it came right from the chocolate farm in Costa Rica.
A hidden gem in old town! We have walked by this place many times but its unassuming facade didn't hint to the culinary experience inside. We enjoyed some drinks, an appetizer, a main course, and dessert! I was suspicious about the octopus being cooked without getting tough/chewy & it didnt disappoint. The butter and bread was an excellent start as well, with the onion butter being my favorite! Our server Rodney was very attentive, and the chef even came out to greet us. Overall lovely experience. Can't wait to return!
Good food, good atmosphere.
I cannot say enough good things about our experience at The Study. Leo was our wonderful server who pointed us in all the right directions. We celebrated my husband's birthday here and he made it feel so special. From the drinks, to the appetizers (ceviche & short rib lettuce wraps), to the main courses (curry shrimp, steak and onions, fried octopus (which was phenomenal)), to the desserts (chocolate sampler and tres leche) everything was so so sooo wonderful. I can't say enough good things. It was our first time here but it certainly won't be our last.
