Evening Star is a classic and never disappoints (and it has been around for 15 years or so). All of our dishes (catfish, salmon, pork belly, mushroom ragout and chicken friend steak) were excellent.
Fabulous meal and beverages, mushroom ragout was outstanding! Great service with good understanding about how to pace food courses - unlike many restaurants that rush entrees after appetizers and then bring your glass of wine with dinner half way through the meal!
We were rookies at the Evening Star Cafe. We split a wedge salad and a burger and they split it for us in the kitchen. Great food, super service (Gabriel was top notch). My wife had a Riesling that she thought was very good. My martini was good. Why did we go there? They have an upstairs bar with live entertainment. We knew a member of the band that was playing that night. The bar has various seating options. A fun evening.
No salt or pepper for a 4 person booth. One packet of sugar and one very small cream dispenser for four coffees. Staff willing but overwhelmed, food arrived cold from a swamped kitchen.
We absolutely loved every single course of our restaurant week dinner here. Can't believe it wasn't more crowded!
So sad to see a neighborhood staple and go-to for so many special occassions coming apart in just about every regard. Quality, consistency, innovation, options, service, and price all trending very badly in the wrong direction over my last two visits (July and August). Sure hope that the owner and manger can pull out of the spin.
Amazing food, great drink selection, and the staff was very friendly. Great prices and value. Food was cooked perfectly.
As usual, absolutely stellar brunch food. Nothing on their menu disappoints. The highlight was the scrambled egg avocado toast.
Creative menu choices, well-prepared. The kitchen was slow but our server Gabriel was personable and attentive — he deserves recognition for a job well done!
Had not been there for a long time and now I was reminded as to why I stopped going there. My expectations are high and it is just sad to see that once a great place in a great location does not seem to care as much. From Dust on the light fixtures to leaving an inexperience summer hire without much of guidance. Our three different dishes weee delicious but w/o a wow factor and my wife got an upset stomach right after her dinner. I would love such businesses to thrive, but they need to step it up a notch.

We held a rehearsal dinner here in June. It was perfect! The food was yummy, the pool table was a hit with the kids, and the couches and chairs were perfect landing spots for the toasts!

The Evening Star is a jewel of a neighborhood restaurant, with delicious offerings. You can choose to sit inside where it is lively and festive, sit outside on the Front Porch, which allows you to take in the vibe and thrum of Del Ray, or in the back where you can dine outside as if you were grilling at home. The menu changes seasonally and the bar is skillful and inventive with their offerings. Our server was excellent. He was knowledgeable, attentive without hovering and well-versed in the menu and wine and beer selections. We couldn't have asked for a more lovely evening out.
Excellent food! Portions tend to be on the smaller side for starters. Outside seating is very nice but the tables are a bit wobbly so be careful. Overall, a nice place to eat in Del Ray.
We went with our small kids and enjoyed a great meal. My only comment would be that our service seemed a little slow but I'm not sure if it's because our reservation was so early in the evening. Either way, we'll definitely be back.
We had crispy Korean ribs that were outstanding, with four big and meaty ribs in the serving, the chicken wings were smoked and had a great flavor. We also enjoyed the heirloom tomato salad and a wedge salad. Both were delicious. The service was attentive, without being obtrusive, and we sat outside in the yard, which was nice given the perfect weather. The only downside was the music was a bit loud, but great tunes, so it wasn't too bad.
