Tucked away in an unassuming corner, Handover Pizza is the kind of hole-in-the-wall spot you almost don’t want to share—because once word gets out, the line will be out the door. They serve pizza by the slice, and it surprisingly delivers. The crust comes out thin and crispy, with just the right snap when you bite in, while the toppings taste fresh and balanced without being overloaded. It’s the kind of slice that feels classic but elevated—simple, satisfying, and exactly what you hope for when you wander into a no-frills neighborhood pizza joint. A hidden gem worth stopping for.

- pizza was ok, to be honest it tasted like it was sitting out for a bit.
- place is small on the inside.
- has seating inside but it's limited.
- prices are normal for the area.
- place was clean and organized.
- overall I honestly wasn't impressed with the pizza.

Not sure what happened today, but I ordered a veggie slice to go. I should have checked, I had to power through the burned taste since I was hungry. Horrible

Spontaneously walked in while passing by. I had a slice of cheese and was very pleasantly surprised by how satisfying it was, I bought another slice to go.
The crust was good for folding. The semolina on the bottom was tastefully balanced. The cheese-to-sauce ratio was perfect. It was a really solid NY-style slice of pizza. I would definitely come back and already have it mind to do so during my next trip in to Old Town Alexandria.
Simple pizza menu. The pies were visible right there behind the counter. No fuss. No complaints from me.
Also want to note that Old Town Alexandria is generally a really LGBTQIA+ friendly area, for those travelers/foodies/etc. from elsewhere looking to travel to a queer friendly town/city. Pride flags are common, so for safety reasons, fyi, people are really friendly and welcoming and I've had great experiences here. 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈❤️

Former NYer, born and raised, and I can tell you this place has the best pizza in the entire Alexandria area. There's bad pizza, there's pretentious pizza, and then there's really good pizza like Handover by the Slice.

The food is great but I’ve been in multiple times where there just straight up nobody behind the counter waited a couple minutes and still nobody came — when someone is there they are very nice and energetic and the pizza is so good

Decent pizza by the slice. The shop is small but it’s mainly to grab a slice while shopping on King Street. I grabbed two slices for $9. Can’t beat that in Old Town.

Ordered a whole cheese pizza which was tasteless. No seasoning or flavor whatsoever. Great prices, playlist, and customer service though. Not the cleanest place either.

I’m never eating here again! I’ve been coming to this restaurant for a few times now and I found a used BAND-AID in my pizza. I was on my last 2 bites and felt something strange and realized I was chewing on someone’s band-aid that works there.

This is my favorite pizza place in Old Town. It tastes great and is crispy, NY style. Staff is nice and it's reasonably priced.
