We took the Farm Table for my birthday celebration. It was the perfect way to relax over an exotic drink while taking in the ambiance of the moment. The first course, a medley of appetizers served family style, was varied enough to garner appreciative praise from everyone in our party. For the second course, we selected the beef short ribs and the eggplant with cherry tomato sauce. Both were beautifully presented to us in generous proportions. The colors and textures of the farm tableware mingled invitingly with the flavors and fragrances of dishes emanating from the kitchen. I loved savoring the mood created as I lingered over each course of the meal. As we left, I was still glowing from the warm embrace of the Vermillion experience. The only thing I would change would be to have background music to more closely match the ambiance created around the Farm Table.
We celebrated our Annie anniversary and chose the tasting menu. Food was out of this world. The chef provided “gifts” throughout the meal - things he was trying out in the kitchen but not on the menu. It's a lot of food but so worth it. Highly recommend.
Very attentive staff. We celebrated our wedding anniversary and they made sure to make it a special night.
Delicious and unusual farm to table dishes. A bit pricey but worth it. We sat in the tavern so more casual ambiance. Service couldn't be better. Great dinner on a Friday night at Vermillion.
My past experiences with farm to table restaurants — including a well-known one — have been less than stellar. IMO, it's usually a cover for uninspired dishes. Not so with Vermillion. I would rank this among my best dining experiences—maybe the best. If you and your fellow diners agree on a main dish and dessert, you get six or seven small plate appetizers, each one created by the chef using farm-fresh ingredients. Imagine cherry tomatoes so delicious you have to ask where they came from. Adding to the ambience, wait staff are happy to provide information or ask the chef. At a pris fixe of $75 per diner -excluding drinks, of course—it's an amazing bargain. I'm already looking forward to a return visit. Problem is, I'm spoiled for anywhere else.
This was one of the original farm to table restaurants, and it continues to be one of the best. We love to explore new fine dining restaurants, but return again and again to Vermilion for special occasions like our anniversary. The farm table menu selection has a pallet teasing collection of appetizers. We experimented with the fried catfish main which was excellently prepared. Dessert was truly an over indulgence. Our waiter David was superb and a fascinating individual to talk with. You can't go wrong here.
Delicious, healthy food, creatively prepared with attention to detail. Loved the tasting menu experience. Jonathan was a charming and attentive server.
Service seemed fine but food arrived very slowly. I had to wait a full 20 minutes for my order to arrive after others at the table were served. Not what I would expect at a restaurant with the reputation Vermilion has.
We came in to celebrate my mom's birthday and it was just fantastic. The service was amazing, Blen was our waitress and explained every dish in great detail. My dad is gluten free and really enjoyed the corn meal crusted catfish. My mom got the short ribs which were fall apart tender. I had the Amish chicken and it was delicious! We will definitely come back again.
This restaurant surpassed our expectations by far. The food, the building, the ambiance, our servers, all combined to create a wonderful dining experience. We are already longing for our next visit. Truly magnificent.

We were happy that Vermilion was available to take out-of-town guests too. We all enjoyed our drinks and dishes. Appreciate that heJonathan, our server was attentive and informed us there would be a slight delay in our main entrees arriving because the chef was busy with a big group order. Appreciate let us know this. And thanks to Scott for switching the reservation time at the last minute. Overall a wonderful experience and Vermilion is one of the best places in Alexandria for delicious food and atmosphere.
Staff was very welcoming. The bartender made drinks that were delicious and pretty and was eager to answer our questions. Scott, the general manager, took great care of us. Wine pairings for restaurant week were very well done and elevated both the wines and the dishes.
Vermilion is always a delectable experience. The food, wine, vibe and service are excellent.
This restaurant is lovely and the staff were attentive and considerate and helpful with recommendations. We went for restaurant week and the tomato salad was delicious! The olive oil cake equally as delicious! The short rib, however, was very tough and my experience at other restaurants is the short rib should be very tender especially after being slow cooked. The fennel salad on the side was just ok. Would definitely go back but would likely order other items.
The restaurant week menu was fabulous as always. Service was very good. We were upstairs which is quieter than downstairs. A great value. We have always had great meals here. The wine pairing with the 3 courses was very good and nicely priced.
