The food and service is very good but it’s so loud that it’s hard to hear the person sitting across the table from you. I don’t know if the owners can do anything about the acoustics.

Visited in February. Excellent service, followed by bad and overly salty food – enough said!

We haven’t been here in a decade. Sad to say we missed out. We had a spectacular meal during restaurant week for three courses. We had the arancini, apple cider donuts, eggs Benedict, fried catfish, French toast, apple cake, and chocolate cremieux. All tasted great and we had superb service throughout.

So nice to get out of the cold for some delicious restaurant week food. The menu choices were very good. Tried some things nags I normally wouldn't, what a treat (oysters and.buffalo steak). I also appreciated the fact that their wine list included a couple of Virginia wines—support industry in our state 🙂.
Really enjoyed the food, ambiance, service. Had a great view of King Street from the second floor window. Highly Recommend.
Enjoyed a great tasting menu with friends. Everything was delicious and plentiful. Big shoutout to Eric and Jonathan who took care of us. Great service, expertise and recommendations.

Awesome farm to table experience tonight. A little pricey, but delicious. We were so stuffed that we couldn’t finish the dessert and took it to go. Eric was our server- he was awesome! Did a great job, very attentive, social and delightful to chat with. We even made friends with the people next to us and shared stories as we wrapped up our dinner. Service was on point, food was plentiful, ambience was perfect for date night. All around, 10/10 experience.

Highly recommend, lovely setting in the restaurant upstairs. We had the Farm Table tasting menu and there was so much delicious food and it was great value for money. Jonathan and Eric provided us with great service all night. Can’t wait to come again soon!
This once my first trip back to Vermilion since September 2014. My fiancé and I were able to request and get a table in the second floor dining area next to a window which overlooked the hustle and bustle on King Street below. We had the Farm Table which consisted of around ten shareable courses of food. Each course was delicious. The coleslaw and braised ribs stood out as my favorite dishes. The second floor dining area was a bit noisy because the restaurant was filled with diners. This restaurant remains my favorite in Old Town Alexandria.
We had an amazing birthday dinner at Vermilion and the entire experience was fantastic from start to finish. Our waiter, Jonathan, truly made the night—his positive energy and enthusiasm were infectious. He was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and made thoughtful recommendations without ever feeling pushy. You could tell he genuinely cared about making the evening special.
And the food… absolutely amazing. Every dish was beautifully prepared and packed with flavor. It felt like such a treat and the perfect place to celebrate a birthday. Can’t wait to come back—huge shoutout to Jonathan for elevating an already incredible meal!

Vermillion was not be so good. Pushy waiter upselling upselling upselling, terrible table (literally had a visible tilted angle to it), everything took forever, nobody EVER took empty drink glasses, food took forever (manager comped a round of drinks but never came around to apologize or check on things), my pork porterhouse was terrible, $400 before tip (for party of 4) - and only 2 in our party had alcohol, we didnt order bottle of wine. Previous customer, I definitely will not go back.
Wonderful dinner in a beautiful setting -- upstairs dining room at Vermilion is perfect. Our server, Erick, was very knowledgeable and attentive -- but not overly so -- making for a splendid special evening! Thank you.
We did the tasting menu and loved every course, and the chefs little presents were fantastic! The service was exceptional!
We visited for my husband's birthday. Sat in a window seat upstairs and Ellie K took very good care of us. I had the short ribs, hubs had the pork porterhouse - both were very good! Enjoyed a bottle of the Red Tail Ridge bubbles - a nice treat as we have visited the winery in the Finger Lakes. We haven't been to Vermillion in many years...but will put it back in the rotation for sure!
Place felt very understaffed - our waiter was nice and doing his best I felt bad. Food took super long - table next to us left before they got theirs. Food was pretty good, nothing special. The thing that was insane to me was that they charge you for a pre fix menu and give you a single portion of multiple of the dishes. The main entre was a single slice of filet for each person (2 single slices total for two people). Seems insane to me to split single bites for apps and have an entire entree be a single slice of filet for two people. Would not return or recommend.
