While visiting our adult grandchildren who live in Altavista, we took everyone out to lunch at El Cazador.I ordered the chile relleno and taco and beans plate. The chili pepper inside the relleno was the size of a quarter and was covered with a small amount of cheese that was hard and rubbery. There was no taco on the plate, only some cooked ground beef which was not seasoned. No shell of any kind, soft or crisp.Service was fine but the metal tray used to bring out the chips and salsa was dirty. We won't be back.

The most disrespectful and dishonest place to order from. How does a meal go from $12.95 + tax, on the phone and jump to $19.49 when I get there to pick it up? No explanation when I called back and asked for an explanation, I got rudeness and hung up on. The language barrier was ridiculous, service non existent and attitude for their dishonesty was uncalled for. I will NOT return or recommend.

Just left 2/1/2024. Out to eat with family and ordered a steak. My steak was literally rancid. I took one bite and gagged. I had my husband taste it (yes I know, but I wasn’t gonna suffer alone) he too spit it out. We sent it back and the owner came out yelling and waving a receipt that he had just bought the meat and it was fresh. I don’t care if he killed the cow himself out back minutes before, my steak was spoiled!!! I told him to eat it cause I wasn’t. He then wanted to argue with my husband but I’m going to do my complaining to Yelp, Google, the BBB AND Virginias inspectional services. A table behind us told us as they were leaving their food tasted “off” too and that they fine here often and never had a problem before. The rest of my table (5 other people) had no problems with their meals and they did end up grudgingly taking off the rotten food.

I am at this restaurant now. I ordered a steak dinner. The steak tasted bad, like spoiled. I immediately sent it back after having my husband taste it. Instead of apologizing or tasting it themselves the owner came over insisting there was nothing wrong with the plate. Shoving a receipt in our faces that they had just bought the meat "fresh". Like a store couldn't make a mistake. I was all set!!!! Everyone else's food was fine but the service was horrible. I wasn't attempting to get food poisoning to prove them wrong.

First time eating there with family. Was overwhelmingly disappointed. My 10 year old who is obsessed with all things Mexican food. He Took one bite of the salsa and went blahhh. My wife said the salsa tasted like cocktail sauce. The rest of the dinner was only slighlty better. The service was the real issue. Took almost an hour to get all the food. Just to pay the bill took over 10 min of standing next to the payout counter. Almost no patrons were there, so its not because they were busy. The experience was second by everyone there. As they are all from altavista they said this was normal for this place.

The El Cerrito, has fine Hispanic cuisine. very nice heat on the shrimp diablo. The atmosphere is less desirable than once. as they have TVs in the corners and a radio on at the same time. The noise level is a bit high. The servers are great, courteous, clean and efficient.

Food was okay, steak fajitas were a little tough and rice was underdone. Service was quick and helpful.
Awesome margarita, and the food was delicious. Excellent place to stop after a long drive.

This place has been good in the past. I went today and not so much. I ordered a frozen margarita and they didn’t have any - had to do on the rocks. Very weak drink. Food was not good. Ordered enchiladas Mexicanas -3 different on the plate. Red sauce on chicken one was like diluted tomato soup. Thin and runny and most of it in a puddle on the plate. Second beef tips one was supposed to have green sauce. There was none. A stray single jalapeño was next to it although not supposed to be part of dish. Good thing I like them. Third cheese one - the cheese on the inside was not melted or even warm. It was like it had not even been heated. In fact the whole plate and the enchiladas were barely warm. Extremely disappointing. Construction work inside during my meal is the reason for my down rating of atmosphere. Place was virtually empty. Waiter was nice - and because of that I didn’t complain in the restaurant.
