Weak tasting waterey gravy, dry crumbly biscuits, no offer of refill on coffee, kids running back an forth by my table while I was trying to eat. An one meal priced for two people. I think $16 is a little much for one plate from a mediocre buffet. Last time for me.

Food was fine. Everything was cooked well and served with attention. The location is obviously a local favorite, which is heartening to see. The meat selections were prepared to perfection. The roast beef, fried chicken, and fried fish were each well seasoned, fully cooked without being overcooked, and a nice treat. The side items were mostly pretty standard for a buffet. The rice pudding was a bit drier than I like and didn't have much for raisins or other additions, though the rice was of a decent texture and flavor was good. Small dining space can get quite loud with all of the open conversations.

I have always wanted to try the Main Street Buffet and today I did. If you want the freshest food you can get it appears that you should go on a Sunday at lunch time. During the week it seems slower and I am not sure about the service then. We were greeted right away and allowed to pick our seat. It was very busy and everyone working stayed on top of things and made you feel right at home. Salad bar, several meal options and an assortment of sides and desserts. Everything is home cooked and delicious. They were constantly bringing out fresh baskets of fried chicken and catfish, items were so hot and fresh you had to wait for them to cool to eat. The building is old fashioned and unique from the vintage sign out front to the bar stools inside. Although old and worn from years of use, I hope it never changes. A great small town place that has everything you could ask for! It is going to be a regular spot for me now as well!Parking: Plenty of parking around the whole building.

Love the buffet...Great food. Need more help with the drinks. Old building could use some updates. Still recommend going.

The customer service was absolutely fantastic. ? The food was to die for & the staff gave us quick & friendly service. The waitress help (delightful Diamond) was second to none and they all were very attentive to my brother, a great friend (his girl) and myself. Thanks alot ya'll and...as they say, "we'll be back!"Vegetarian options: More than thirty vegetables ? available from the buffet stands.Parking: Just had plenty of spaces outside the restaurant.Kid-friendliness: I just know several kids were ? dining in and were happy campers with the many food options available.Wheelchair accessibility: The restaurant had wheelchair ♿️ accessibility.

Got here not long after they opened. Some of the food was cold. Catfish was good. Vegetables a little on the bland side. But the staff was very nice and welcoming. Felt almost right at home the minute I walked in.

I have ate there a number of times for all 3 meals..And I enjoyed it..The food was good and the people were friendly and polite..I had no complaints at all..I think it's great that it's ran by a family and they all work together..And to the ones that had or will have bad reviews Altavista is a small town and we have had stores and restaurants closing here since the Covid..We are very lucky to have "Main Street Buffet"...So if you are looking for a high end place to eat maybe you should go to Lyñchburg or Danville...KEEP THE GOOD WORK UP MAIN STREET BUFFET...Kid-friendliness: It is kid friendly..But of course it depends on how well the parents watch their children...But yes it is very well equipped for children..Parking: Plenty of parking most of the time..It does get pretty busy certain times of the day because it is a popular place to eat..Wheelchair accessibility: There's a side door for wheelchairs..

Would of given 4.5 stars because I thought the price was a little high for what you get. Food was very good but the banana bread was absolutely delicious. Cost per person was about $15 including the drink.
