I've had the pleasure of eating at Balo Kitchen many times. It's one of several shops in the Block food hall that share a dining area. I highly recommend the Laksa Curry Soup specifically with chicken, shrimp, and tofu. It's great for to go orders too, surprisingly. The dan dan noodles and steak and rice bowl are delicious as well, and for sides I love the brussels sprouts and helote street corn!
Hainanese Chicken is a pretty well established dish- if someone is going to go their own way with it, should at least make it good. It seemed stale and didn't have the right sauces. They gave a ton of rice, which wasn't really that helpful. The guy seemed nice, and the vibe is kind of interesting, kind of like a bar and food court combined.
The best food EVER! Balo kitchen never disappoints and I always recommend them to anyone who will listen to me! Delicious!
Nice find and great banh mi!
Best noodles but they are never available to order into DC
The shrimp tacos changed and they are not good at all. Unfortunately, will no longer be visiting until hopefully they go back. Also it seems like the garlic is fried in some type of animal fat and not oil??? This was a not good surprise when the oil from the garlic hardened….
Love Balo. So many options of food. I love their pork belly Hong Kong style. The place over all has a variety. You have food, bar, dessert. 4/5 for me.

The laksa curry soup with ramen noodles and pork belly was one of the best I have ever had. Generous meat portions, delicious broth and fresh cilantro on top of yummy noodles. Thank you for the treat!

We were excited to try the fried chicken and French toast that they show on their website. Asked them about ordering it, and they don't have it. Lulz. The food was okay. From everything we ordered, the bahn mi was the best. Also had, general tsaos wings, hiaanese chicken and crispy pork belly. Also, we were waiting a while for our food so we went up to check on it. The young lady working forgot to give us our little buzzer thing to let us know our food was done. Turned out it had been done for a while. It was fun to try out, but wouldn't go back.

Theirs Banh mi was just ok. Missing a flavor. Otherwise, it would be great. Rice and pork had a better tasted than Banh mi . Although I like their Hainanese chicken, it was very moist.

Came here with my family and every meal was a homerun. I ordered the Ramen which was great, my daughter just did plain nuggets which were seasoned very well. My oldest daughter got the chicken lo mein and I think that was my favorite dish.

Food is always hitting at Balo Kitchen! I recommend if you want that umami and nuoc mami flavors to try their pork belly rice dish. Texture is crispity and crunchity. Throw an egg on that and let it bust out that yolky deliciousness. If you want to slap your tongue up, I’d recommend their bo kho/beef stew. It hits those notes especially with all their spice levels.

This place is not very good about dietary restrictions and will not work with you to accommodate. Also, they do not allow substitutions - so if you cannot eat a component of your meal, they will not accommodate. The food itself is good though.
