We had brunch at the Rail Yard Restaurant today and everything was very good! Great portion sizes, great prices and friendly staff. We had an omelet with veggies, hash brown potatoes, bacon, and blueberry pancakes.

I wanted so badly to like this place. I have a spot in my heart for small town diners. I tend to seek them out intentionally.

We had just visited the Appomattox Court House and National Park. We see this diner listed and we decide to come here with family.

Coming in they tell us to sit wherever and also tell us they are only serving breakfast today. No worries, we love breakfast.

It takes probably ~20min to get our drinks and to put in an order. Probably another 20-25 before we get our meal. The food was OK (eggs, bacon, biscuits, pancakes, french toast). I think we were there 1.5 hours or so.

Don't think I'd go back.

That all said, the two ladies there were friendly as can be. I can only assume they were short staffed on Labor Day.

They were Packed, but going by the service we received you wouldn't know it. Next time we're in this area we will be coming back.

Great food!!
The blueberry biscuits are a must!!! Also the keylime pie is a must.
2 of the 6 in the party had lunch. Bbq nachos were yummy and huge. The steak and cheese sandwich was plentiful and yummy.
The breakfast options were yummy and filling. Biscuits n gravy was lovely.
Seriously get a couple blueberry biscuits! And keep room for the homemade key lime pie too!!

I have frequented this place off and on for a year now. They seem not to be able to hold onto staff, and the ones there don't seem happy. As far as breakfast goes, the grits and cornbeef hash are watery and extremely small portions for the amount charged. To date they have been unable to make eggs over medium, always on the hard side. The homemade biscuits are good but once again very tiny for the money. The owner/cook lacks people skills. Overall, breakfast at best here is fair. Don't think I'll return.

It looks like a simple diner when you get there, but we really felt like we were in good hands and ate very tasty food at a great price, so we absolutely recommend it!

My wife and I had dinner here.
Her fried catfish tasted bad as if the fish itself was bad or the oil used to cook it in was old.
My pork BBQ was uninspiring and despite trying several different sauces was uninspiring.
The gravy on the mashed potatoes was extremely salty.
The only redeeming part of our meal were the pies.
I would look for other dining options in Appomattox Courthouse

I recently visited Rail Yard Restaurant and had a generally pleasant experience. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, and the staff were friendly and attentive.

However, I noticed that the food seemed to be pre-made and reheated, rather than freshly prepared. The hamburgers, fries, mashed potatoes, brisket, and pork nachos all appeared to be store-bought and warmed up. The pork nachos, in particular, seemed to have processed canned cheese. While everything was cooked properly and tasted fine, the freshness and homemade quality that many diners might expect weren't quite there.

Despite this, I appreciated the convenience and quick service, making it a decent spot for a casual meal. If you're looking for a quick bite and aren't too particular about freshly prepared dishes, Rail Yard Restaurant could be a good choice.

Overall, I'd give it 3 stars for the friendly service and comfortable atmosphere.
